Many outlandish costumes were in evidence, but there were also some beautiful and valu able dresses worn by the girls Indian costumes of rare qualities. All in all, our Halloween ball was a most pleasing affair. Miss Mollie V. Gaither for more than two years was at Chemawa in the capacity of principal teacher. This fall she was promoted to the superinteftdency of the Springfield, So. Dak.', school. We are informed that this is a nice school in a beautiful location. On November 14th Miss Gaither took her departure for her new field. Knowing that she was soon to depart a large number of her friends gave her a farewell sur prise party a few evenings before she left. The function was in the na ture of a supper and was given in the Domestic Science qnarters. It was a very elaborate affair and voiced the honor and esteem in which Miss Gaither was held by those in attendance. ATHLETICS 11RIKF SUMMING UP MY Mil. SMITH, Disciplinarian n October 17 the Chemawa team played what was to have been The Dalles High School but upon arriving there they played The Dalles outlaws, which is a team of well-seasoned men, outweighing our boys 12 pounds to the man. This being the first game of the season, our boys did not show up as well as expected. In the first half The Dalles scored 20 points. . In the; second half Chemawa held their heavy opponents to 7 points. It has been said that this was by far the hardest game of the season. October 24th we played the crack Multnomah team in Portland. The clubmen have a collection of star players from all over the country and the best they could do was to score one touch down in each period, while the sturdy little redmen collected their strength on their own 40-yard line in the last period and bombarded with shot and shell. Downie was shooting to Jim on his left and to Lane on his right, which simply smotherd the club team. When the smoke cleared away L,ane was kneeling on the ball back of the much-coveted clubmen's goal post, Downie soon added another point by kicking an easy goal.
