THE CHEMAWA AMERICAN 25 Miss Booth, of Salem, has been employed at Chemawa recently in the capacity of temporary clerk. Miss Troutman is now. the small boys' matron, while Mrs. Teabo is temporarily in charge of the bakery. Nov. 10th was the birthday of Mrs. Wadsworth and a number of friends gave her a most delightful surprise in the the evening. . All regret that Mrs. Wadsworth's health has been so poor of late. Mr. Douglas Holt, a former Chemawa student, but now a successful business man in North Yakima, Wash. ; was the guest of friends here on a recent Sunday. He sang at our chapel service, to the pleasure of all. Mrs. Mary V. Redford arrived at Chemawa not long ago from Pen dleton, Oregon, and is filling the position of matron for the small girls. Former ly she was known as Miss Mary L,aHay e and bid friends will recall her by that name. William Walters, the efficient enphonium player of the band, is now playing the trombone part in the orchestra and making good, too. Alex Melovidov is still manfully and artistically holding down the second vio lin chair. Both of those young men are sure winners. During the past few weeks Willie Reddie has been playing violin for the dances at Brooks, a little more than three miles to the north of us. Miss Ruth Swobcda has been the pianiste on these occasions, while once or twice Mr. Swoboda played cornet. So it is needless to state that the music was good. Not long ago we learned with regret that little Earl Thompson had died at the family home at Hadlock, Wash., of brain fever. His moth er was small boys' matron at Chemawa during a period previous to the 1st of last January. Earl was a bright little fellow and many friends will be shocked to learn of his death. In another column will be found a reprint telling of the success of our canning club girls in Portland during the Land Products Show held in the metropolis recently. Mrs. Brewer accompanied the girls as chaperon on this occasion. The girls won the first prize, $50, which wras very gratifying to them and pleasing to all of us. Departmental officials have requested that we publish a list of our li brary titles. This we would be pleased to do were it .possible, but the list is so large that it i-J practically impossible. It is our expectation to publish the list ia book form at as early a date as we can and those who may be interested will be given the list on application. Should anyone have pressing need of our list pending publication Supt. Wads worth will be pleased to have them confer with him.
