Miss Inez Peconam arrived at Chemawa on October 8tli in charge of
a party of three girls from Susanville, California.
Dr. M. F. Clasius, of Siletz, paid a visit to Chemawa friends recently,
and we were all glad to have him here, even for a brief visit.
On the evening of October 11 Mme. June Reed, violiniste, and Miss
Alicia McElroy, pianiste, played a concert program in the Chemawa
Auditorium. They were favored with a large and enthusiastic audience.
All were delighted and spoke in highest praise of the numbers given
and their artistic rendition.
We note with pleasure the receipt of a couple of programs given at the
Tulalip school, Dr. Chas. M. Buchanan superintendent. Like all ot
the Doctor’s muscial programs, the numbers are appropriate and lug i-
class. The effect, or result, of such programs must be for the better-
ment of all who attend them.
U. L. Clardy and family have gone to Fort Apache, in the White
District, Arizona, where Mr. Clardy has a position as issue c eric

Bettie, a daughter. Many friends will he pleased to hear that the family
has health, success and happiness in the new environment.
Mr. J. J. Heath was a visitor here recently. Years ago Mr Heat i
was printer at Chemawa, but at present he is engaged in the p u
s h in g business in Raymond, Wash. Mr. Heath has many acquaint
ances among the older employes at Chemawa who are pleased to note Ins
successes. While here he noted many changes and improvements an
stated that he would always retain his interest in the institution.
During the month of July Dr. L. J. Fraclitenberg. an ethnologist
working in the interest of the Smithsonian Institute arrived at Che-
Zawa where he expects to be employed for the course of a year or longer.
In the latter part of September he was joined here by lus wile, vv 10

here. During the previous year or two Siletz lias been Dr. Frachten-
berg’s field of research.
