a new strawberry patch south of Mr. Henderson’s store.
We were well pleased to hear Dick Adams and Andrew Brown sing in
the chapel Monday at general assembly.
The Motanas gave a picnic the twenty-fifth of April out on the grounds
near McBride Hall. Refreshments were served and were enjoyed by all
who were present. We played games of all kinds. That night we had a
dance. Ice cream and cake was served. The band played for a while and
then we had the orchestra. The orchestra played many fine selections.
We danced until 10 o’clock.
Sixth
We had our farewell meetings for all the literary societies for the term
last Thursday evening. The next thing to come off is the debate for the
championship between the Winona and the Reliance Societies.
Miss Brown brightened up the hearts of the sick pupils in the hospital
by sending them a basketful of the prettiest yellow roses.
The girls in the sewing-room are making gingham dresses, and inside
of two months they have made about five hundred every-day dresses for
the children. The girls appreciate making them because they learn
something about sewing.
Many of the grades are doing exhibit work in their «different studies
for the Panama Exposition.
We have been enjoying ourselves in the warm sun for the last few days
and we hope it will continue.
We are enjoying the fragrant roses and the other flowers which are
now in bloom.
The orchestra which have their practicing place at the music room at
the domestic science building have been practicing some fine overtures.
Mr. Loos, with his double bass, comes and joins the orchestra at their
practice.
Third
I live in Alaska. I was 12 years old yesterday. Miss Gaither gave me
a big lunch. I am in the third grade. My teacher is Miss Flint. She
is sick now, and I feel very sorry for her. Mr. Jackson has taken her
place until she gets well. I like Mr. Jackson, too. He is a good teacher.
There was movies last Friday.
This is news item week.
The Chemawa baseball team is doing well this year.
Home letter week last week.
I am an office orderly. I have lots of time and play ball.
