career on the farm should receive greater attention.
O ur cou n try schools are not fully equipped for the
task . T h e country school is for an ag ricu ltu ral class
of people and therefore should be designed and eq uip
ped to so develop th e country people th a t they be the
best of farm ers w hen th ey reach m atu rity .
I t has been well said th a t we m ust not only educate the boy and girl,
but all the people. T ra in in g should not stop sim ply because people
are no longer atten d in g th e public school. A train in g th at assists the
people of th e home in g ettin g the most out of life for the support of
life should be th e aim of education. A means to th is end for th e farm
er w ould be a model school farm .
O ne of the g reatest draw backs in a cou n try school is the lack of a
com petent teacher. T he cou n try schools should be tau g h t by men and
women who are in sym pathy w ith co u n try life and farm operations.
T h e m an teacher should be a person th a t know s th e art of scientific ag
ricu ltu re. T h e woman teacher should be a person who know s the art
of dom estic science. Tw o teachers of th is type should be employed
perm anently in a tw o-room ed co u n try school.
T h e school farm would help out th e salary question. T h e man
teacher could have w hat he could raise on th e farm besides the m oney
salary. T h is w ould offer an inducem ent th a t would secure the services
of a com petent m an for th e head of the school.
