S u p t. and M rs. \ \ adsw orth, and Miss A gnes, were P ortland visitors
a few days ago.
Mrs. Irm a Douglas, after a sojourn of a m onth in P ortland, retu rn ed
to her duties in Chemawa on A pril 1st.
On M arch 23rd M essrs. E . A. Sm ith and A ndrew W alker had b u si­
ness th a t took them on a trip to P o rtlan d .
On M arch 23rd G eorge R oberts and G eorge P eratrovich, two of our
students, departed for th eir homes in K law ack, A laska.
Mrs. Loos has cause for feelings gratified over changes and im prove­
m ents she has in au g u rated at M itchell H all. T h e place certainly p re­
sents a pleasing appearance to a visitor.
On A pril 6th , th e b irth d ay of S u p t. W adsw orth, he was given a s u it­
able present and a “ su rp rise ” d ancing p arty . S upt. W adsw orth was
the recipient of m any co n g ratu latio n s and good wishes.
Since our last issue Miss Skipton had the m isfortune to clip off a little
of the end of her finger w hile dem o n stratin g the use of the b read -cu tter
at the big dining-hall. W hile painful for a w hile noth n j serious re su lt­
ed from th e accident.
On the evening of M arch 30th a party was tendered A ndrew W alker
at the hom e of Mr. and M rs. E . A. Sm ith. An enjoyable evening was
th e verdict of all who atten d ed . On the day follow ing A ndrew left for
his new post of d u ty , U m atilla, O regon.
Special A gent Brown of th e Indian Office, W ash in g to n , I). C ., arrived
in Chem awa on M arch 30 and rem ained w ith us for a week or such a
m atter. Mr. Brown proved him self and able and affable gentlem an and
m ade m any friends d u rin g his brief visit w ith us.
W e were pleased to receive a couple of program s of recent Sunday
ev en in g s’ chapel exercises at T u lalip , W ash. As usual, these pro­
gram s were very in terestin g and gave additional proof of I)r. B u ch an an ’s
sense of the fitness of th in g s and his love of the best class of m usic.
W e are practically assured th a t an in stitu te for Em ployes in the I n ­
dian Service will be held in Chem aw a d u rin g the first two weeks in
A u g u st, nex t. Ju d g e Cato Sell. Com m issioner of Indian Affairs, plans
to be w ith us at some tim e d u rin g the In stitu te. Details will be given
out later.
A pril 2nd was L oulin B rew er’s birth d ay anniversary and he was 21
years of age. In honor of the occasion a party was given him by his
m other and sisters, to w hich num erous friends were invited.
A good
tim e for all resulted and pleasant m em ories will linger in th e m inds of
all for m any years to come.
