EXCELSIORS’ RECEPTION
On the evening of Saturday, March 28, the Excelsior Literary Society
gave its annual reception in the gymnasium. This year, as well as
in former years, this event has carried the honors for all such functions.
The gym was artistically decorated by the members of the society;
purple and gold crepe paper, the society colors, was draped from the
beams and the railings in the gallery, fir boughs were also interlaced in
the railing. Pennants of the various societies of the school were strung
over the front of the stage; pennants were also hung around the outer
edge of the gallery. Pictures, class pennants, and evergreens were pret
tily arranged on the walls. There were rugs and chairs in the corners
which made the gym very home like.
Shortly after the guests assembled a grand march was led by Andrew
Walker, president of the society. The Excelsior band and orchestra in
turn furnished good music for the evening’s dances.
At the hour of ten all present assembled at the west end of the gym
where tables were set with the dainties that were prepared for the guests
and members. At eleven-thirty all returned noiselessly to their quarters
after having spent one of the most enjoyable evenings that has been
