grace the name of the school. He is in a sense a marked representative
of the school. I wish to congratulate the fourteen members of the Che-
mawa first team on having won their letters. I wish to call your at
tention to those people also who have labored on the football field, re
ceived hard knocks even though they have not won their letters and in
behalf of them if any of them be present I at least hope for them that
they may win in the coming year the privilege of wearing upon their
breasts the white C which means that that student is a letter man of
Chemawa.
I trust that the letter men of Chemawa will feel the dignity of their
positions. Possibly they may organize a Society of the C, or Order of
the C. In any event, as the wearers of the C, they had ought to be
drawn together by the feeling of responsibility that has come to them.
If the privilege of wearing the C can influence and serve as a reminder
of cleaner and more efficient athletics for Chemawa, better and cleaner
football constitutionally, then this would be the true making of one of
the very best football teams in every respect than can be found any
where in the land.
THE BANQUET

NE of the most enjoyable occasions of the season waCtlic
football banquet at the close ol the season. Mr. Smith,
manager of athletics and coach of our team, made
such an enjoyable evening possible. He had the school
dining-room prettily decorated for the occasion with
pennants and school trophies. The tables, set for
over a hundred guests, were loaded with all kinds
of good things to eat.
Those enjoying the banquet were the faculty, the football boys, and
their lady friends, and other invited guests. Those responding to toasts
were: Prof. Kilpatrick, Eric Boldt, captain W. U. team 1913; Reuben
Sanders, Silas Moon, Louis Paul, Gideon Hanbury, Dr. Fulkerson,
Supt. Wadsworth, and a few members of our team. This occasion
marked the closing of the most successful season the school has ever
enjoyed.
Mr. Smith has inaugurated a new custom by presenting a cardinal
red sweater bearing an official C to the players who have participated
in a certain number of games. Mr. Smith deserves great credit for
managing the team the past season and the splendid manner in which
the banquet was carried out.
