tu re m achine d u rin g th e holidays. One beautiful picture story was so
lengthy as to require two reels.
Prof. Sm ith, su p erin ten d en t of schools, of W oodburn, addressed our
general assembly congregation on a recent Sunday evening. H is talk
was most in terestin g and instructive.
M any of o u r readers will be pleased to learn th a t Mr. A. J. W atkins,
n ightw atch at Chem aw a several years ago, is now in th e governm ent
service at W ashington, I). C ., in th e pension d ep artm en t.
At the tim e of going to press we were inform ed by S upt. W adsw orth
th a t he is exp ectin g about tw enty-five new pupils to arrive at Chemawa
w ithin the n ex t few days. S upt. W adsw orth certainly possesses a fac
ulty for d raw ing pupils,
H arry Jones, a m em ber of our g ra d u a tin g class of 1910, spent the h o li
days w ith Chemawa friends. H arry is now atten d in g th e state college
at Pullm an, W ash. H e is m aking good there, we are pleased to state,
and we wish him every success.
O ur large new steel w ater tank is practically done. It has a capacity
of 50,000 gallons and th e top of it is m ore th an 100 feet above ground.
S upt. W adsw orth and others are rejoicing th a t we are to be so well
equipped for holding a reserve supply of w ater.
Mrs. Thom pson resigned her position h e re o n Jan u ary 1st and went
back to her hom e in H adlock, W ash. She had been m atron at the Small
B oys’ H om e. T h e good wishes of m any friends follow her. Mrs. W il
liam Lovelace succeeded Mrs. Thom pson as m atron.
O tto H u n g ray of Shoshone, W yom ing, was recently appointed to the
position of n ig h t w atchm an at Chem awa.
Mr. H u n g ray conies to us
highly endorsed as an athlete and all-around sportsm an, being recom
m ended as a baseball pitcher.
H e was at the Riverside school for a
couple of years.
T h e nurse girls are tak in g a regular course of train in g under Mrs.
Irm a D ouglas, governm ent nurse. L v ery th in g has been reorganized in
th e departm en t and the girls receive lessons in nursing, and all that
pertains to it, daily.

Since our last issue I)r. and Mrs. H . L. H ale, who were residents of
Chem awa for m any m onths, w ent to Siletz, at which place they rem ained
a f?w weeks. W e were inform ed th at early this m onth they were to pro
ceed to the school at W arm springs, O regon. T h e doctor is doing dental
w ork for the goverm ent at the various Indian schools.
