Y . M. C. A.
The weekly meetings of the Y. M. C. A. have been well attended
during the last month, and the young men are showing an increasing
interest in the work. On the last Sunday evening in each month a
joint meeting is held with the Young Women’s Association, for which an
interesting program is always arranged.
On the evening of Nov. 8th the Christian Associations held a social in
McBride Hall. The Y. M.s were the hosts, and gave the entertainment
in appreciation of the reception given them by the Y. W.s last spring.
Games were played, refreshments were served, and all enjoyed a pleas
ant evening.
The Bible study classes, on Tuesday evenings, which have for some
years been an important part of the work of the Christian Association,
are now arranged for all Protestant students above the primary grades’
Ten classes are organized and are doing good work. Miss Chappell,
and the students of Willamette University, who are teaching the classes,
deserve a great deal of praise for their unselfish service. The Inter
national Graded Lessons are used. This series is adapted to classes of
all ages, and the course gives a knowledge of the whole Bible. One-
lialf of all supplies for this work is given by a missionary society of the
Presbyterian church, and the churches of Salem will pay the balance.

The zeal with which the cabinet of the Young Women’s Christian
Association has taken up its work is already producing the results hoped
for when the Association was reorganized at the beginning of the term.
Nor is the zeal of the cabinet members without knowledge. The tactful
way in which each one handles the work of the committee of which she is
chairman is evidence of knowledge gained by previous experience, as well
as of earnest thought for the present situation. The Assocation member
ship is increasing. Attendance is voluntary and cheerful. As often
as possible, news-papers and magazines are taken to the hospital and
other deeds of kindness are done by the hospital committee. One of the
members of the social committee organized a plan for making her com
mittee useful all the year. The Association financesare prospering —
