Miss Della Macomber, who at one time was a teacher at Chemawa, is

Mrs. Chas. Pugh spent a good part of the summer in Los Angeles,
California, but is now here in Chemawa again.
During the summer Supervisors Peairs and Charles paid Chemawa
official visits. We are pleased to extend a welcome to those able and
affable gentlemen.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Haight returned to Oregon early in the fall
from California. Since their return they have been residing in this
section. They now have one child.
There are a host of new pupils at Chemawa this year. We are de
lighted to announce that these pupils come from all over the country,
proving that our school is favorably known in every quarter.
We were informed not long ago that Mr. Joseph Dillstorm, “ Big Joe”
as he was known to us, is now at Wahpeton, N. Dak., at which place
he is employed as disciplinarian. We are very certain that he has made
good, too.
Since our last issue Eleanor Lynch has arrived from her home in
Wrangell, Alaska, and has enrolled with us. This will be an interest
ing note to many of our old-time students. Anna Loftus is here, also,
from Wrangell.
The new brick industrial building is now completed. It is to be used
as a blacksmith shop and a wagon-making department. New machin
ery and working material is to be installed and everything made up-to-
date. We consider this new building the best suited of any on the
grounds to the purpose for which it is intended.
On the evening of September 26, 1913, Charles Kelly Van Tassel,
youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Van Tassel of Chemawa, died
after an illness of a week or two. The remains were interred, tempor
arily, in the Chemawa cemetery, but it is the intention ultimately to
remove the body to the eastern home of the parents. The child was a
bright little fellow and during his brief life had endeared himself to
everyone here. The family have the sympathy of all in their bereave
ment.
