Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Benson of Siletz were guests of the school dur
ing commencement.
Many of our pupils have departed for their homes, where they are to
pass the summer vacation.
Quite a number of our young men have employment on the Southern
Pacific railroad near Chemawa as section hands.
Lee Evans, a member of the graduating class of last year, came out
from his Siletz home to be present during commencement this year.
Willie Service, one of our printer boys, is now down at his home on
the Columbia river, where he will catch salmon during the summer.
Mr. Nelson R. Rainville, of Athena, Oregon, was a guest of the
school during commencement that he might be present at the graduation
of Ins daughter, Callista.
Ten clusters, of five lights each, now add beautv and brilliancy to the
pupils’ big dining hall. The lights, fifty all told, are encased in
white globes and are very beautiful.
On Sunday evening, June 22nd, Patsy Barrett, a member of this
year’s graduating class, departed for Minneapolis, Minn., where he has
relatives and where he will have employment.
During nearly the whole of commencement photographers from
Salem were on the grounds and they succeeded in securing some most
beautiful pictures of Chemawa and the many features of the occasion.
Organization of a Chemawa alumni society was effected on the even
ing of June 20th. Mr. William Lovelace was elected president and
Mr. Gordon Hobucket chosen for the position of secretary-treasurer.
Many of our graduates and pupils have departed for their homes,
some to pass the summer vacation with friends, other to work for the
season, while still others will join the ranks of the armv of world’s
workers.
Miss Royer and her mother departed on the morning of June 23rd
for Garnet, Kansas. Miss Royer has been a teacher at Chemawa for
more than five years and she and her mother left manv friends here
when they departed.
On the evening of June 21st Miss Ethel Roberts and Mr. Frank Gor-
bet were united in wedlock by Rev. R. H. Kennedy. The ceremony oc
curred at the home of Supt. and Mrs. Wadsworth in the presence of a
few invited guests. These young people start out for themselves with
the best wishes of everyone in the school. The bride was a member of
the graduating class of this year, while the groom is an ex-student of
Chemawa. The young couple will make Salem their home, as Mr. Gor-
bet has a position in a shop in that city as a blacksmith
