Not long ago Mr. Clardy chaperoned a party of our girls on a visit to
Mt. Angel—a trip that proved delightful in every way.
On the evening of May 24th the farmers indulged in a party, of
which dancing was the principal feature—aside from refreshments.
Miss Peters, assistant clerk, has been quite ill of late and was for a
time at a Salem hospital. We are pleased that she is now much better.
Miss Myrta A. Randolph is the latest addition to our teaching force
and we are pleased weloine her. She formerly lived in Los Angeles
California.
Our band furnished music at the Strawberry Festival held recently at
Roseburg, Oregon, and was very successful in giving most perfect
satisfaction.
On Memorial Day Mrs. Brewer was in Tacoma, while Miss Skipton
went to Corvallis, flower-bedecking the graves of dear ones who inhabit
the Silent Cities.”
On May 23rd, following an annual custom, a number of G A R
veterans were at the school and addressed the student body on ’ patriot
ism and the observance of Memorial Day.
Within the past few weeks we have received a visit each from Supt.
Johnson of the Cuchman school at Tacoma, and Supt. Swartzlander of
I matilla. We were pleased to have these gentleman visit us.
Miss Margaret Lowrv and her mother came from Greenville, Calif
ornia, to be in attendance during Commencement, so that they’ might
be present at the graduation of the sister and daughter, Miss Maude.
Mr. H. C. Bowen, who for some time was industrial teacher at C'lie-
mawa, paid the school a visit since our last issue. He is now holding
one of the best positions obtainable in the Pullman Car Company at
Portland and is getting along nicelv.
Miss Gaither and her corps of teachers should be well pleased by the
showing made by the pupils who took part in the graduating exercises,
for all acquitted themselves exceptionally well. All of the exercises
were fitting
C and of unusual interest
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Teatx> came over from their Grande Ronde
home to attend our Commencement exercises and visit with friends.
Memorable was the reception given by Supt. and Mrs. Wadsworth
at ’ ’The Cottage” on the evening of June 19th to members of the grad
uating class. Conversation, music and good fellowship passed away
the evening all too quickly. Before the party dispersed delicious re
freshments were served and shortly thereafter the guests departed with
good nights ’ and good wishes for Supt. and Mrs. Wadsworth, who
had certainly proved themselves perfect as host and hostess.
