THE

BOOKS
N order to avoid possible infection of pupils in Indian
schools by the use of the same textbook by different
pupils, su p erin ten d en ts are hereby directed to supply
th eir schools w ith enough textbooks so th a t no p u p ils
will be com pelled to use one, except as h erein after
provided, w hich has previously been used bv an o th e r
pupil:
Clean books for advanced grades, w hich have been used bv pupils
who are free from infections or contagious diseases m ay he used bv
other pupils after being disinfected and re-covered.
All books shall be covered, and when they become soiled they m ust he
re-covered.
Schoolbooks in th e hands of the pupils shall be covered bv them w ith
m anda paper, and if su p erin ten d en ts have not enough for this purpose
requisition for an additional am ount should be subm itted
Books w hich have been used by p u p ils having any contagious disease
m ust not be issued to other pupils, b u t m ust be destroyed.
It additional supplies are necessary, in order to com ply w ith th is d i­
rection at schools having a specific ap p ro p riatio n , th e su p erin ten d en ts
thereof shall m ake im m ediate request to purchase additional books u n ­
less th eir h in d s are entirely exhausted. In this case, how ever, everv
precaution m ust be taken to prevent the spread of disease from this
source d u rin g th e rem ainder of th e school year. W hen funds are avail­
able from next y e a r's appropriation am ple books m ust be supplied.
S uperinten d en ts of schools supported from the general appropriation
shall subm it im m ediate requests if additional supplies are necessary
to com ply w ith th is direction, and in so far as funds are available they
w i l l be approved
