Miss W hite, teacher of th e six th grade, gave an interesting talk in the
chapel one M onday m orning about C rater L ake in S outhern O regon.
Mr. M. L. Devoll of W aterville, O hio, has been appointed teacher
to fill a vacancy here. M r. Devoll has had experience in teach in g .
W e exten d a welcome to him as a m em ber of our faculty.
T here is a noticeable im provem ent in th e g irls ’ m arching since C ap
tains Sam pson and W h ite have been d rillin g the com panies. T h e boys
will have to “ get b u sy ” or th e girls will carry off the laurels.
Mr. and M rs. F ickle sp en t S unday afternoon w ith Mrs. H arold, who
lives near Q uinaby. Mrs. H arold has been ill for two weeks, w hich is
m ost serious on account of h er advanced age. She is well know n to
those who have lived at Chem aw a for any length of tim e.
Last week Mr. Loos had a b irth d ay anniversary, as all people who
are past tw enty-one do. H e was keeping th e fact quiet, b u t th e band
boys found it o u t and surprised him in the evening w ith a serenade on
the porch in front of his room s. T hey w ere invited in and served by
M rs. Loos w ith punch and cake. A fter th e refreshm ents were co n
sum ed th e boys gave a concert on the law n.
Mr. R alph Seam an, Y . M. C. A. stu d e n t secretary of th e Pacific coast,
visited the Chem aw a Y. M. C. A. recently. Mr. Seam an rem ained at
Chem aw a ju st long en o u g h t to show us some clever stereoptican views
of the U niversities of Idaho, O regon and M ontana. He also showed
upon the canvas a few of the m any good tim es the boys enjoy at C olum
bia Beach and urged our boys to attend the com ing sum m er conference.
T he Small Boys and th e ir m atron, Mrs. T hom pson, deserve credit for
the neat appearance of the Sm all B oys’ H om e at S a tu rd a y ’s inspection.
T h e beds are clean and well m ade, floor polished, the w hole b u ild in g in
excellent condition. Special m ention should be m ade, of the room oc
cupied by th ree officers, C apt. Ivan A nderson and L ieuts. R ichard
Busbv and John Beyers, none of whom is over fifteen years of age. If
th e boys in Brewer and M itchell H alls wish to see a model room, let
them visit the officers’ room in the Small B oys’ Hom e.
