employes were present during the dinner and assisted in serving the
pupils.
In the afternoon there was a game of basketball between our boys and
a team from the Mute School, which furnished entertainment for all
lovers of the sport. We won the game.
In the evening there was a social and dance in the big gym. Here
again joy reigned supreme and Terpsichore was wooed by many adher
ents of the Muse. At a respectable hour all repaired to their separate
quarters feeling that the day had been eventful and full of joy.
At the Employes’ Mess a fine dinner was served to the regular patrons
and a number of invited guests.
All through the holiday week various features of entertainments were
allowed and enjoyed by both pupils and employes. On New Year’s Eve
there was a dance and later it took the form of a “ watch party” and
1912 passed into eternity with the birth of 1913. All sorts of demon
strations were indulged in, such as blowing of whistles, ringing bells,
blowing horns, beating triangles, etc. We all knew that 1913 had ar
rived. The band was out and played, as it had done in the “ wee sma’
hours” of Christmas morning. So it all ended, as all good things must
—but, any way, “ Chaistmas comes but once a year.”

The basketball team is well under way for a successful year, although
the line-up does not look as strong as that of last year. The absence
of Lynch and Powers does not weaken the team; Sellew and Robt. Ser
vice are filling these places in fine style. Sellew is playing a very good
game at center and with a little more practice and experience he will
be in a class with the best centers in the state. Robt. Service, another
new man, is playing a fast and steady game at guard. The other mem
bers of the team, Clements, Wilcox, Jim a id Dunbar are always in the
game. With this line-up Chemawa can look forward to a very good
season.
We won the first game of the season from the Dallas Academy on
our floor on Dec. 6th. The Academy boys played a clean, fast game
and are very good at basket-shooting. We off-set this by fast work
and careful passing and won out with the score of 18 to 13.
On December 13th we played a return game with the Dallas Acad
emy and defeated them 40 to 15.
