CHRISTMAS
T H E H O L ID A Y S E A S O N A T C H E M A W A
Christmas with the people at Chemawa was certainly an enjoyable
season of rejoicing and “ Good Will Toward Men.” On Monday even
ing, December 23, we had an entertainment in the chapel which maybe
said to have opened our holiday season. This was a cantata entitled
“ The Neglected Program,” by about twenty pupils, which was well
given and thoroughly appreciated.
On December 24, Christmas Eve, the entire population of Chemawa
gathered in the big gym for the distribution of presents. Two trees
were beautifully decorated and the whole atmosphere of the place was
suggestive of the home of Santa Claus. Many beautiful presents were
distributed and everyone present received a gift of some nature. The
scene was enlivened by the blowing of horns and other noise-producers
bv the smaller boys.
At ten o'clock on Christmas Day all assembled in chapel, where a
program suitable to the occasion was rendered. Everything which oc
curred at this meeting was in accordance with the Christmas spirit.
At noon a fine chicken dinner was served in the students’ big dining
room. In accordance with an old-time custom at Chemawa many of the
