UO Art Museum Opens New Exhibit
Art works from the Oregon
Biennial 1985 exhibit in Portland
will be on view Aug. 2-30 at the
University of Oregon Museum of
Art.
Selections from the Oregon
Biennial 1985 features 19 paint
ings, prints, sculptures and pho
tographs by contemporary artists
from all over the state.
Seven well-known local artists
are included in the show: Steven
Gillman, Hannah Goldrich, San
dra Lopez, Andrew Johnston,
David Joyce, Kacey Joyce and
Mary A. Schaeffer.

exhibition organized every two
years by the Portland Art Mu

"The range of works in this
show offers a very special perspec
tive on contemporary art in the
state," says Richard Paulin, UO
art museum director.
Selections from the Oregon Bi
ennial 1985 was organized and is
being circulated by the Portland
Art Museum. The show is sup
ported in part by the Oregon Arts
Commission and the National En
dowment for the Arts.
The UO Museum of Art is open
free to the public from noon to 5
pm Wednesdays through Sundays
except holidays. Free public tours
are available every Sunday at 2
pm.

The museum will be closed dur
ing the Labor Day weekend, Aug.
31-Sept. 2. It will also close from
Sept. 16-28 for maintenance and
installation of the major fall show,
a retrospective of the work of the
late David J. McCosh, which
opens on Sunday, Sept. 29.

Wins Award
Eugene artist David Joyce
was recently awarded the Best
of Show Award in the Ore
gon/Washington Juried Exhibi
tion of Contemporary Art held
at the Maryhill Museum of
Art. Joyce, who teaches at
Lane Community College and
is a founding member of the
New Zone Gallery in Eugene,
was awarded a $300 prize and
a
one-person show at the
Maryhill Museum next year for
his life-size photosculpture
installation entitled "No Tres
passing." Jurors for the com
petition were LaVerne Krause
of the University of Oregon
and Harvey West, director of
the Henry Art Gallery at the
University of Washington.
