HULT CENTER FOR THE
PERFORMING ARTS
The new Hult Center, on West 7th at Willamette in
downtown Eugene, is itself a work of art, with a uni
que architectural design and original works of art
throughout. Its two auditoriums—the 2500 seat Silva
Concert Hall and the smaller Soreng Theatre—feature
symphonies, opera, theatre, dance, and music from
all over the world, as well as from Eugene's own pool
of talented artists. It is the home of the Eugene Sym
phony. Ballet, and Opera, and the Oregon Repertory
Theatre Adjacent to the Hult Center are the Eugene
Conference Center and the Hilton Hotel. For ticket in?

COMMUNITY CENTER FOR THE
PERFORMING ARTS (WOW HALL)
Housed in the historic Woodsmen of the World (WOW)
Hall. this concert hall features both local and guest
performers of music, dance, theatre, etc. It is popular
locally as a boogie palace, featuring an outstanding
wood dance .floor. Beer and wine sales are separate
from the main hall, so people under 21 are welcome.

FIFTH AVENUE HISTORIC DISTRICT
Eugene's "old town," south of Skinner's Butte Park
to Fifth Ave., and roughly between Willamette and
High Streets. features many beautifully restored
homes and buildings from the late 1800's and early
1900's. There are many interesting shops and gal
leries in this area as well, including the Fifth Street
Public Market and Fifthpearl Shops which feature a
fine selection of crafts, food, shops, music and lots of
local color.
EUGENE DOWNTOWN MALL
The Eugene Downtown Mall is the home of many
Eugene shops, restaurants, and businesses. With
free parking on all sides and easy access to public
transportation, the Mall is a pleasant place to shop,
stroll, or meet someone for lunch. The central fountain
area is the site of outdoor concerts. theatre produc
tions. and other happenings. Push cart vendors and
picnic tables add to the park-like quality of the Mall.
The Mall is bordered by 8th and 11th Avenues. Char
nelton and Oak Streets.
SATURDAY MARKET
Saturday Market is Eugene's unique outdoor crafts
fair, featuring fine local crafts, a wonderful variety of
food and entertainment. The Market sets up each
Saturday in the Park Blocks at 8th & Oak Streets and
is open from 10 am-5 pm. The colorful booths and dis
plays create a festive atmosphere in downtown
Eugene.
VALLEY RIVER CENTER
Eugene's largest collection of retail stores are
gathered together at Valley River Center. The enclos
ed shopping mall with ample free parking makes for
pleasant shopping in all kinds of weather. Nearby is
the Valley River Inn, two major movie theatres, and
several family style restaurants. Take Hwy. 105 north
and follow the signs.
SKINNER’S BUTTE PARK
Situated along the Willamette River and close to down
town, this park features a playground, picnic areas,
playfields, and the Owens Rose Garden with over
3000 rose bushes of over 300 varieties. The wooded
butte can be climbed on foot, bike. or by car, and
from the top, you can see the whole city and beyond.
A bik path runs along the river and connects this park
to Valley River Center, Autzen Stadium. the Univ, of
Oregon and Alton Baker Park.
ALTON BAKER PARK
Also along the Willamete River, this park offers a
variety of recreational activities including: Pre's Trail,
a 4.2 mile jogging path; a 3 mile waterway ideal for
canoeing (watch for Blue Herons); an amphitehatre;
large playfields; covered picnic areas; and boating
and rafting access to the river. Part of the Willamette
River Recreation Corridor, this park is connected by
bike paths with Valley River Center, Autzen Stadium,
the University. Skinner's Butte Park, and downtown
Eugene.
HENDRICKS PARK
Hendricks Park, an 81.5 acre wooded parkland which
overlooks Eugene, features an exquisite rhododen
dron garden with over 6000 rhododendrons and aza
leas. Surrounding the garden is a wooded park with
300 year old trees, hiking trails, picnic and play
areas.
SPENCER BUTTE
Just a few miles south of Eugene lies the highest vista
point in the area. A fairly gentle trail leads all the way
to the top from which you can see a full 360 degree
panorama. The one-way hike takes about an hour, at
a leisurely pace, and is well worth the effort, especial
ly on a clear sunny day! Pack some drinking water
and a snack, and make an afternoon of it.
MT. PISGAH ARBORETUM
Located along the Coast Fork of the Willamette River,
at the base of the 1520 foot Mt. Pisgah, the Ar
boretum features trees and shrubs from around the
world. The network of over 4 miles of sawdust trails
takes you through forests, meadows, and to a breath
taking vista point. It's a great place for a picnic, with
good swimming in the river nearby. Hiking trails also
lead from there to the top of Mt. Pisgah. The Ar
boretum is open year round, during daylight hours.
Admission is free. Take Franklin Blvd., south, to
Seavy Loop Road; left on Seavy Loop Rd. to the end.
AMAZON PARK
This large city park features a playground with
wading pool, large picnic and play areas. a com
munity center, and a public swimming pool. Intersect
ing the park is a wide bike path which connects the
downtown area with south Eugene. Nearby is the
1-mile long Adidas Oregon Trail, a sawdust jogging
path, which begins at 24th and Amazon Parkway. Call

WILLAMALANE PARK AND POOL
This Springfield park has a large indoor swimming
pool, playground, picnic areas, and lighted tennis
courts. Call 726-4335 for pool hours or to reserve a
sheltered picnic area.
ISLAND PARK
Nestled in the trees along the Willamette River, this
park has picnic and play areas, large picnic shelters,
and boating access to the river. Call 726-4335 to
reserve shelters.
ARMITAGE PARK
Armitage Park is a state park, located north of Eugene
on the McKenzie River. This lush green park features
picnic areas and cooking facilities for large and small
groups and large grassy play fields. A few miles past
the park is the town of Coburg.
LANE COUNTY MUSEUM
This museum focuses on the history of Lane County
and the pioneers who settled Oregon over a century
ago, featuring household items, vehicles, clothing,
quilts, and much more. Also featured is "A Century of
the Lively Arts,” a special exhibit on the history of the
performing arts in Eugene. Situated next to the Lane
County Fairgrounds on West 13th, it's open Tues-Sat,
10 am-4 pm. Admission is free.
UNIVERSITY OF OREGON
MUSEUM OF ART
Located on the beautiful Univ, of Oregon campus, this
museum is famous for its vast collection of Oriental
art. It also features art and photography exhibits and a
gift shop. Wed-Sun, noon-5 pm.
MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY
Located in the Science Complex on the Univ. of
Oregon campus, this museum draws from three ex
tensive research collections to create exhibits on
Oregon geology, antrhopology and biology. Exhibits
change periodically. Open Tues-Sat, noon-5 pm.
Closed August and holidays.
WISTEC
The Willamette Science and Technology Center is a
participatory science center featuring hands-on ex
hibits and science discovery activities for both chil
dren and adults. It is also the home of a planetarium
with regularly scheduled weekend shows. WISTEC is
located at 2300 Centennial Blvd., behind Autzen Sta
dium. June and September hours are Sat and Sun,
noon-5 pm, with planetary shows at 3 pm. July and
August hours are Tues-Sun, noon-5 pm, with plane
tarium shows on Sat. and Sun. at 3 pm. Weekday
planetarium shows July 10-13, 18-22, 24-26, at 3
pm.
SPRINGFIELD MUSEUM
The Springfield Museum features a permanent local
history exhibit entitled Historic Springfield and two
other galleries which feature both local and traveling
exhibits of art, crafts and natural history. .Located at
6th & Main in Springfield, hours are Wed-Sat, 11
am-5 pm.
