A $400 gift from Camp 3 of the
Omaha Woodmen Life Insurance
Society has made possible the open
ing of a Slide Bank Registry of visual
artists' work at Lane Regional Arts
Council, the Arts Council announc
ed this week. The gift has been used
to purchase a desk-model slide pro
jector with an 8"x8" screen which al
lows members of the public to view
slides of artists' work in convenient
detail. A slide filing system and a
Slide Bank promotional mailing will
also be funded by Omaha Wood
men's gift.
The Lane County Visual Artists
Slide Bank is open to the public in
the LRAC office, 795 Willamette St,

the U.S. Dept, of Education,

to using animals for experimental
reasons causing extreme sickness

designated as a day to demonstrate

Mike Fish, UO Professor of Chinese,
is trying to lure two people to teach
English to physicians and hospital
staff members at a major regional
medical school in northwest China
, beginning in September 1983 as part
of an exchange program. His bait is
the opportunity for those he recom
mends for the positions to live and
work in a Chinese cultural setting
! and to earn a salary commensurate
with each teacher's qualifications.
Free apartment housing is also pro
vided.

The Community Center for the Per
forming Arts (CCPA) announces its
1983 fundraising "WOW—It's
Ours!!" campaign which began Fri
day, April 1, 1983. According to
Denny Guehler, CCPA fund-drive
co-chairperson, "The goal for
WOW— It's Ours!!’ campaign is
$15,000 raised from 300-500 new or
renewing members.” Rod Roehnelt,
also fund-drive co-chairperson,
reports that a $500 kick-off chal
lenge grant has been received by the
CCPA from an anonymous donor
via the McKenzie River Gathering
Foundation. Roehnelt and Guehler
also report that "the CCPA Board of
Directors has pledged over $1,100 in
personal Board gifts, bringing the
total raised before the drive of

retire the mortgage on the historic
Woodmen of the World Hall, fin

include The 14th Oregon Bach Fes
tival directed by the acclaimed con
ductor Helmuth Rilling. There will
be numerous performances from
June 20-July 3 at both the Hult
Center and Beall Hall, including a
series of free noon concerts. The
work of NW artists will be featured
at the Art Museum. Theatrical
dance, including modern, jazz and
tap, will be the emphasis of pro
grams offered by the UO Dance
Dept. There will also be a family
style Marine biology discovery
workshop Aug. 14-16. Two ocean
trips are included which explore
marine ecology in activities for all
ages.
