Public Access Channel Opens
As part of the Group W Cable channel realignment this week. Chan
nel ll will now be dedicated solely to Public Access programming. Be
cause all the production equipment has not yet arrived, and the public
access facility is not fully operational, programming will originate from a
makeshift studio on a limited schedule.
The first week of the new season will include segments from the long
running local public access programs. Nuclear Questions, Winds of
Change and Naturesource, as well as several shows of special interest.
On Monday night two programs that demonstrate community television
in other cities—Public Access in Minneapolis and Municipal Access in
Tulsa—will be shown. American Images, a program about the Farm
Security Administration photographers in the 1930‘s and 40‘s will air on
Tuesday night and repeat later in the week. This production was direct
ed by ex-Eugenean David Turner and edited by local television pro
ducer Steve Christiansen. Friday night will feature the work of local
videographer, Loren Sears.
Public Access programming, which will begin at 7:00 and last until
10:00 each evening, will be hosted by public access volunteers, who
plan to fill out the schedule with live interviews and events of interest to
the community. Grand opening for the channel will happen when the
new studio becomes fully operational.
