THE UNITED AMERICAN 16 Harry Daniel, a pioneer and one of the builders of Portland, has filed his declaration as republican candidate for state senator. He is well known as an attorney and as one of the largest Ore gon growers of prunes and walnuts, be ing actively engaged in his law practice and the management of his varied busi ness interests. For thirty-three years he has been a member of the Woodmen of the World. He is also a member of the Masons, a Shriner and a Knights of Pythias. He states his belief that the foremost qualification for office is a high ideal of service, and pledges himself to honest ef forts in the interest of all the people. Fred W. Angell, candidate for republi MAY, 1924 can nomination for the office of Multno mah county clerk, is a young man, and it is the prediction of friends—many of whom are ex-service men—that voters, feeling the office is best filled by a younger man, will rally to his support. He announces his firm intention, if elect ed, to give to the discharge of the duties his full time and personal attention. Mr. Angell, a Pennsylvanian by birth, is thirty-eight years old; is married and a taxpayer; and has been in Port land a number of years, engaged in vari ous .capacities. Previous to his enlist ment for service in 1917, he followed the electrical trade in this city. After his return from over seas, he was employed in the directory department of the tele phone Company until his unsolicited ap pointment by Judge Martin Hawkins as chief clerk of the district court—the po sition he holds at present. He saw active service in France, the nature of which can be surmised by the fact that he was wounded twice, gassed, and twice cited for bravery, and is due for a congressional medal. He is .past commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Portland, member of the American Legion, of the association of Disabled Veterans, Multnomah Ath letic Club, Woodman of the World, Moose and Royal Arcanum. The slogan of Mr. Angell embraces all the qualifications the office requires: “Service, courteous treatment, business administration.” mmiiiiiiiiitiitiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiitiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiimiiiifiiiiiiiimmiiiiiimmiiiiiiiiiiimiiiiiiiiiiimiiiiiiiiiiiimiimttiiiiiiiimiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii VOTE X 71 Geo.
