/''ORGANIZATIONS of and for the foreign Nationalities in Amer-
ica who are devoting most of their time to “keep the home
fires” of the foreign countries bright and burning in this country,
have since the war, in many instances, extended their ramifica­
tions to “have and to hold” the new arrivals as well as the older
residents of their nationalities, applying artful methods to keep
the rank and file immune against complete Americanization, the
one menace today threatening the continuance of the foreign
colony with its handicap to the foreign born. Political and com­
mercial representatives from foreign countries, educators, jour­
nalists and authors, come with innocent looking commissions of
cultural and educational nature as authorization and introduc­
tion, eliminating suspicion and paving their way to the respective
nationality groups’ national headquarters where their credentials
have a different meaning and from where they, subject to advance
advertising, proceed from group center to group center, from
city to city, a signal for general muster of the colony in order that
everyone may hear the “message” spoken affably and appealingly
in tongues foreign to America.
Poisonous rivers of ink, through foreign language tracts,
books and alleged newspapers have, since the war, flooded our
foreign language colonies and group centers, creating another
impetuous torrent of resistance and systematic opposition to
American unification and assimilation of the foreign born. Suave
Americans of prominence, politicians, and educators who for
paltry and varied emoluments are rendering their services to
pacify an aroused American public opinion, should check their
subtle speech before they in the name of the American people
are summoned to appear before the revivified court of American
consciousness where the AMERICAN SOUL sits in judgment.
