November, 1922 THE WESTERN AMERICAN The New Home of êhr pnrtkuiù ©drgram The Portland Telegram, one of the leading daily newspapers of the Northwest, has been moved from its former quarters in the Pittock block to its new and permanent home in the Evening Telegram Building, erected on the northwest corner of Eleventh and Washington streets. The new structure is three stories high, especially designed and built to house The Tele gram, editorial, advertising, circulation and mechanical departments. The architecture is Colonial in style and the tower is almost a replica of Independence Hall, Philadelphia. The Telegram was founded April 16, 1877, by The Oregonian Publishing Company, by which it was conducted until July 24,1914, when it was sold to J. E. Wheeler and L. R. Wheeler. The latter assumed actual control of The Telegram the day the World War began, July 28, 1914. Since that time it has doubled in circulation. The publishers are young men who are taking an active interest in the social, economic, indus trial and political questions of the city, the state and the nation. Their newspaper, reflect ing that spirit, has gradually come to take a leading place among the daily journals of our nation. The policy of this journal is a policy of fair ness and a square deal. The spirit of progress is reflected in its editorial and news columns. The Portland Telegram is a constructive force in the building of a better and a greater city and state. This month The Portland Telegram will issue a Progress Edition devoted to chronicling the progress of the Oregon country. In this edition The Telegram will feature its own progress, something of its own history. The Portland Telegram is one of the popular evening papers of this city and state. âillllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllilllllllllllllllllN Place Your Orders With The Western American Advertisers—and Tell Them Why
