People behind The Nugget: PHOTO PROVIDED " On Saturday, August 7, 12 young men and women, eight shown here, from Black Butte Ranch Fire, Cloverdale Fire and Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire graduated from their Joint Recruitment Academy. The graduation honored those from both the 2020 and 2021 classes who successfully completed their Firefighter I Academy. " Sisters District Ranger Ian Reid wrote: We would like to thank all of the local restaurants and vendors who helped support approximately 220 firefighters with meals and supplies during the recent Monty and Bean Creek fires on the Sisters Ranger District. Smaller fires like these do not get national caterers, which are in extremely short sup- ply this year for a variety reasons. At least three of the restaurants (Martolli9s, Angeline9s, and Mazatlan) significantly changed their operating schedule on very short notice by either closing to the general public or ask- ing their staff to work late into the night. Angeline9s also postponed their annual staff-appreciation rafting trip so the firefighters would have hot breakfasts and healthy meals. We appreci- ate your efforts! Thanks to: Rays Food Place 3 Sisters; Tate & Tate Catering; Martolli9s Pizza of Sisters, Angeline9s Bakery; Mazatlan 3 Redmond; Regio9s Café 3 Redmond; Subway 3 Sisters/Bend; Olive Garden 3 Bend; Sandwich Factory 3 Prineville; and Bi-Mart 3 Sisters (for Gatorade, which nobody else could supply because of the Gatorade shortage). Angela Lund admits that she didn9t know anything about Sisters when her then- husband Jim announced that he had a job opportunity here back in 1998.
