28 Wednesday, October 10, 2018 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon LETTERS Continued from page 27 been done by Dupont or an environmental agency. Did testing happen? Were there figures available on loss? Did we just wing it and hope for the best? Where I’m from, first the trappers eliminated all the fur-bearing animals. Next the northern hardwood forests came down. There were 88 saw mills in the county; today there are none. The closest old-growth is a 49-acre patch of pines over 250 miles away. Can we learn from this? We are the stewards of our natu- ral world. We need to do better. Joellyn Loehr s s s To the Editor: What just happened?! After over 39 hours of Kavanaugh hearings, over 1,000 questions asked, and records from six previous FBI background checks reviewed it was time for closure. And then all hell breaks loose as the Democrats unleash their secret plan to destroy Kavanaugh by any means necessary. So what’s changed in 2,000-plus years? “Then the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders of the people assembled at the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas, and plotted to take Jesus by trickery and kill Him.” Matt 26:3 NKJV When the new hearings began after the Democrats found someone from 36 years ago to come forward to testify it was just the start of their trickery with the full support of the FAKE news. For Democrats the accused was presumed guilty, end of discussion. “Now the chief priests, the elders, and all the council sought false testimony against Jesus to put Him to death, but found none. Even though many false witnesses came forward, they found none.” Matt 26:59-60 NKJV The fact that Ford’s testimony could not be cor- roborated by her own friends and other witnesses did not deter the Democrats as two more came forward with “breaking news.” The most outrageous came from the creepy porn lawyer witness who had “the goods” and was welcomed by none other than CNN. Zero credibility, zero facts. “But at last two false witnesses came forward and said……” Matt 26:60 PS 27:12 NKJV Just to be clear, this is not to equate Kavanaugh to Jesus but to demonstrate how power still corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Jesus was a threat to the worldview of the priests and their power and had to be destroyed. Kavanaugh is a threat to the worldview and potential power of the Democrats and had to be destroyed at all costs. We’re in a spiritual battle that has raged for thousands of years. In my opinion, the good guys won this one. Jeff Mackey s s s To the Editor: The school year is off to a good start as we settle into October. Our administrators have worked with our staff to be ready for the start of the year, and our smooth start is a testament to their work. We are happy to report that after the start of the year we are currently above our projected enrollment for the 2018-19 school year. For the past two years, we have started below our projection and then grown throughout the year to be above our projections in the second half of the year. Central Oregon growth is showing itself in our schools. Finally, we have been very busy working on bond projects, with the largest project this summer being the remodel of our middle school. I want to thank our SMS staff for working through the construction issues as we prepared for the start of the school year. The beginning of the year is always busy, and to manage construction completion on top of an already hectic time of the year shows our staff dedication to being ready for our students. This fall, not only will all of our schools have deferred maintenance upgrades, additionally, all of our schools will have double door entry systems, card-lock doors, improved ADA access and cameras as advanced safety measures. In September, we dedicated funds for our new transportation center. The District is committed to The Nugget continue to move toward the long-term goal of cen- tralizing our facilities on one campus. Curt Scholl Superintendent, Sisters School District s s s To the Editor: In the October 3 Nugget, Pat Bowe implies that the nearly 2,600 children still separated from their families at the border is fake news and that it doesn’t matter anyway because their parents have broken the law. The truth is it’s not a crime to come to the United States to seek asylum. But even if it was a crime, most of the children of incarcerated parents in the U.S. are in the care of the other spouse, grandpar- ents or other relatives. Eleven percent are in foster care. They’re not just rounded up like cattle and put in holding pens. What kind of world do we live in that anyone would think this is OK? This is the same America where we are now stuck with Judge Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court for the next 40 years, who was rammed through confirma- tion hearings without investigating all his accusers or allowing members of the Senate to vet allega- tions of perjury in his recent testimony and prior statements. This is a man who lies about all sorts of things, big and small. Right from the start he stated about Trump: “No president has ever consulted more widely or talked with more people from more backgrounds to seek input about a Supreme Court nomination.” This entire debacle was avoidable, especially when the majority of Americans were against his nomination. The end result is a Supreme Court that will be just another extension of the Republican Party, losing all semblance of impartiality or legitimacy. Our only hope is to vote in November. We can’t let compassionate politics be a thing of the past. Ethics shouldn’t be just for losers. We can start by retiring Greg Walden. He sold us out a long time ago. Please vote to elect Jamie McLeod-Skinner. Terry Weygandt 10.24.18 Food & Home Issue It’s fall!
