Two days earlier it was a differ- ent story, as Sisters took a devastating 1-2 loss at Cascade. Woodburn struck first in Thursday’s contest and scored on a free kick at the 27-minute mark, and teams battled back and forth in a very physical game. At the half the Bulldogs held a slim 1-0 advantage. In the second half, the Outlaws worked harder, played faster, and tallied two goals. The first came in the 60th minute from approxi- mately 25 yards out. Gracen Sundstrom blasted the ball past the keeper on a perfect free kick, and evened the score 1-1. Fifteen minutes later, Sisters scored again on a counterattack. The ball was played up front to Hollie Lewis, who beat several Bulldog defenders and then the goalie, and booted a left- footed shot into the back lower corner of the net for the go-ahead goal. The final five minutes of the contest were a scramble, but the Outlaws prevailed and posted the win. Coach Jaron Jacobsen said, “We played tremen- dous. Woodburn works the ball well, and had some tal- ented players, but our girls played with grit and heart tonight. The win was a team effort, and they showed we can play the best!” Tuesday’s game against the Cougars went a different direction. In the 33rd minute of play, Olivia Hougham, thanks to an assist from Hallie Schwartz, had a sweet strike from about 25 yards out that curled around the goalies’ outstretched hands. The Cougars scored on a corner kick right before the half to tie it up at 1-1. The Outlaws battled hard and out-possessed Cascade in the second half. They had several opportunities to score, but just couldn’t find the back of the net. Cascade scored with less than five minutes on the clock. A ball bounced around the box, and finally found its way into the back of the goal. “It was such a heart- breaking loss for the girls today,” said Coach Jacobsen. “They left everything on the field. We played with heart and passion today, and I’m extremely proud of the girls. We were the better team today, but just came up on the wrong side this afternoon.” Jacobsen added, “Hallie (Schwartz) had a mon- ster game for us, and Alexa (Stewart) had a great game in the back line for us, and Olivia (Hougham) was our workhorse.” The Lady Outlaws will travel to Philomath for a game against the Warriors on Wednesday, October 10. Kendra Sitz, Greta Davis, and Sophie and Sam Silva all had a great offensive game. They all provided a strong attack and block at the net, and led the Outlaws to a 25-14 win. In the second set, SE found their rhythm and it was a bat- tle the entire way, with Sisters prevailing 26-24. From there, Sisters took on Redmond, and cruised to a 25-7, 25-8 victory, thanks to strong serves that paved the way.
