Wednesday, September 19, 2018 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon 7 Reducing Outlaws sweep league opponents on hardwood stress through mindfulness By Rongi Yost Correspondent The Stress Less with Mindfulness class series introduces participants to the experience and practice of mindfulness to reduce stress. The series of four sessions will be taught by Glenda Hyde, OSU Extension Service community educa- tor on Tuesdays, October 2, 9, 16 and 23, 9 to 10:30 a.m. During the classes, partici- pants will increase flexibil- ity in responding to stress, learn about alternative ways of relating to everyday life experiences and practice mindfulness self-care skills. Participants will reduce stress-related symptoms such as worry, depression and physical tension resulting in better quality sleep and improved work-life balance. The cost of the series is $5 per person, and can be paid at the first lesson. Register in advance by calling the OSU Extension Service office in Redmond, 541-548- 6088 by Friday, September 28, 2018. The class size is limited. The Lady Outlaws posted wins in three-set sweeps over Woodburn and Philomath last week. Sisters beat the Bulldogs 25-5, 25-9, 25-14, and two days later defeated the Warriors with scores of 26-24, 25-17, 25-18. Sisters hit the road on Tuesday to take on Woodburn, a new league foe this year, and sailed to an easy win. In the first set, Kendra Sitz tallied three aces in her 7-0 serving run to give the Outlaws a quick start. Sisters recorded five more aces in their first-set victory. The Outlaws found the same success in the final two sets. They served tough and forced a young Woodburn team to struggle. The Outlaws posted 21 kills, 20 aces, and three blocks. Sophie Silva led the squad with five kills and three serving aces. At home two days later, the Lady Outlaws started the match a bit out of sync against No. 5-ranked Philomath. Sisters committed 15 passing errors in the first set, but were able to pull off a win by a slim margin. The Outlaws found their rhythm, played strong in the second and third sets, and recorded the victory. Sisters was strong at the net and recorded 40 team kills in the contest, led by Sophie Silva and Kendra Sitz, who each tallied 10. Sam Silva contributed eight kills, and Greta Davis added seven. The team also had 10 blocks and 10 aces in the match. “Despite having a slow start I was pleased with the way we were able to bounce back and find our rhythm,” said Rush. “I was proud of our effort tonight, and look back-to-school haircut!
