Wednesday, September 19, 2018 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon Vision Summit on tap in Sisters Strategies designed to ensure Sisters Country’s liv- ability for years to come will be announced at a Vision Summit from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, October 4, at FivePine Lodge & Conference Center in Sisters. This celebratory event is being organized by the Sisters Country Horizons community visioning initiative and is free and open to the public. There will be refreshments, stories about life in Sisters Country, presentation of the emerging Sisters Country vision, and opportunities for feedback from the public. More than 1,800 people helped shape 54 draft strate- gies for the Horizons Vision Action Plan through com- munity leader interviews, an initial survey of residents and visitors, community meetings and forums, and other com- munity activities, presenta- tions and events. In July and August, Sisters Country Horizons conducted a second survey asking peo- ple to choose which of the strategies are most important. A total of 565 people com- pleted the recent survey. The results of that survey and the top-scoring strategies will be revealed at the October 4 event. Summit participants also will meet a newly formed Vision Action Team, 24 citi- zens from all walks of life who will lead the develop- ment of a Vision Action Plan. The first Sisters Country Horizons survey — com- pleted by nearly 500 Sisters- area residents between March and May — found residents treasuring the community’s natural environment and small-town feel, and citing growth, traffic and housing as major challenges to the com- munity’s quality of life. Sisters Country Horizons is a visioning project sponsored by the City of Sisters. Deschutes County and the Central Oregon Intergovernmental Council are project partners. The Horizons project will run through December 2018 and result in a long-range vision for Sisters Country and a plan to achieve it. It will be carried out by local government, pub- lic agencies, community orga- nizations, and the business community.
