Williams’ most recent album, “Emerald,” was released a few years ago, but many of the songs she wrote resonate for her now in the present landscape. “It was written before the 2016 election, and truly a lot of the songs are a true American record and have a lot of resonance in the current environment our country is in,” she said. Originally from southern Connecticut, Chamberlain graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1960, and had a long career as a physi- cal education teacher and doing social work. When he was 30, his sister gifted him a “Famous Artist’s Painting Course.” She was working for that company, well known for its matchbook-cover advertis- ing, and rather than take the course herself, she gave the offer to her brother. A glimpse of his world is on display in the Computer Room of the Sisters Library from now through September 29. Amerocana Project alum to perform By Ceili Cornelius Correspondent Melody Youngblood, singer-songwriter and Oregon native, now living in Kentucky, is returning to her home state and home community to perform at the Sisters Folk Festival. Youngblood grew up in the Portland area with her family. When she was 16 years old, she left her family and went over the mountains to Sisters to be a part of the Americana Project. She started out living out of her car and attending Sisters High School. People in the community took her in and gave her places to stay so she could stay in the program she loved so dearly. “It is such an inspiring place that gives young people the space and time to be cre- ative,” said Youngblood. She got a job working at Angeline’s Bakery, and Angeline Rhett gave her a place to stay while she worked for her. “Brad Tisdel took me under his wing and when I started out brand new, he told me that he saw me and wanted to help me further my music. I really identify with that kind of education and instruction,” Youngblood said. “There is no better way to teach than through the arts. At the Caldera song acad- emy, I met my now-partner- in-music Mitch Barrett, who was an instructing artist. I found myself very inspired by his music and wanted to continue working with him.
