Wednesday, September 5, 2018 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon 15 La/y Outlaws splot pre-season games Sosters salutes... By Rongi Yost Correspondent The girls soccer squad started their season with a slim 1-0 win over Madras at home on Monday, August 27, and two days later suf- fered a 7-0 road loss to Marist. In Monday’s very physical and back-and-forth game, the Outlaws scored the lone goal in the 63rd minute. Gracen Sundstrom took a corner kick, and the White Buffs goalie fumbled the bouncing ball. The ball slipped by her and rolled across the face of the goal, where Madi Larrabee, who was in the right place at the right time, smashed home the goal for the 1-0 lead, which held until the final whistle. Coach Jaron Jacobsen said, “Madras was physical and had some pretty good play- ers that really tested us early and often. Overall, it was a successful first game and will be a building block for our season.” On Thursday, Sisters was shut out by Marist in their game that was played at Philomath High School. The PHOTO BY JERRY BALDOCK The Outlaws are back on the soccer field in a new league this year. Overall, it was a successful first game and will be a building block for our season. — Jaron Jacobsen biggest noteworthy stats for the Outlaws came from goal- keeper Rheanna Salisbury, who had 12 saves, including a saved penalty kick. Jacobsen said, “The score- line didn’t reflect on the game itself. We played hard and per- formed well. Marist is a good team and it was a physical game and a great test for us as we head into league play.” On Tuesday, September 4, the Outlaws were to travel to Newport for the Oregon West League opener. On Thursday, September 6, Sisters will host Cascade. • Courtney Snead and the Snead Family in Madras, Bend and Springfield wrote: My mother-in-law and sister-in-law were the folks involved in the car crash that happened at Fryrear Road and Highway 20 on Friday, August 24. They are fortu- nate to have survived, and are currently recovering at St Charles, Bend. I had the responsibility of retrieving their luggage out of the wreckage that was their Subaru Forester, which saved their lives, and through that got to meet Kathleen at Davis Tire and Towing. I could not have had a better experience, and wanted to share with the community of Sisters how fortunate you are to have such a wonderful woman and business owner in the community. She was sympathetic, understanding, and I just couldn’t help but give her a hug after crawling around in the remains of the vehicle. Thank you, Kathleen, for being such a huge support to me, and ultimately our fam- ily, during this challenging time. • The City of Sisters salutes its staff: Five Years of Service: Kim Keeton Wanda Braughton 10 Years of Service: Robin Bentz Nicole Abbenhuis Doug McIntosh 15 Years of Service: Paul Bertagna Carol Jenkins Quality Truck-mounted CARPET CLEANING Quality Cleaning 16 years in Reasonable Prices Sisters! — Credit Cards Accepted — ENVIROTECH 541-771-5048 Licensed • Bonded • Insured • CCB#181062 RESIDENTIAL • COMMERCIAL Come join us for lunch or dinner.
