Art show will feature
regional artists
The 23rd Annual Country
Fair and Art Show will be at
the Episcopal Church of the
Transfiguration in Sisters on
August 10 and 11. The invi-
tational art show begins with
an artists’ reception on Friday
from 5 to 8 p.m., which
includes refreshments and a
silent auction. The public is
invited to come out and min-
gle with the artists.
The art show continues
on Saturday along with the
popular Country Fair from 10
a.m. to 3 p.m. The art show
and sale includes outstanding
regional artists, and there is a
diverse collection of original
high-quality oils, watercolors,
pastels, photography, pottery,
outdoor art and jewelry.
A new display format will
feature every participating
artist. According to organiz-
ers, there will be more room
to move around and enjoy the
wonderful art.
The Country Fair has
long been a favorite event for
family fun. Food offerings
include burgers, hot dogs, and
homemade Marionberry cob-
bler, and there will be games,

A unique grouu of young ueoule get ready to go on a nature adventure on wheels.
‘Footloose at the Fire
Hall’ promises fun
while they “celebrate the
fantastic community we live
in.” Breaking bread together,
while meeting new people
and recreating, makes for a
healthier community, a goal
of C4C.
A number of instruc-
tors will be on hand to help
foster community engage-

dances from the Hustle to
the Cupid Shuffle to a circle

of the evening will be the
creation, by all the attendees,

Next Wednesday, August
15, 5:30 to 8 p.m., the Sisters-
Camp Sherman Fire Hall will
be the setting for Footloose at
the Fire Hall, an evening of
free food and fun, seeing old
friends, meeting new ones,
and discovering — and redis-
covering — popular dances of
yesteryear and today.
The idea of the eve-
ning, according to
Citizens4Community board
member Amy Burgstahler, is
to bring people in the com-

Last week, a bunch of
excited kids headed for Suttle
Lake through the safe and
quiet forest. They’re part
of Heather Walden’s Black
Butte Eco-Bike Explorers.
Black Butte Eco Bike
Explorers is a grassroots,
nonprofit program put
together to get kids outdoors
to learn about ecology and
conservation through art and
mountain-bike exploration.
The goal is to provide young
people between the ages of
10 and 15 tools to make a dif-
ference and help improve and
maintain our environment.
The field trips involve
real-life topics of things hap-
pening in the environment
to focus on: Reduce, Reuse,
Recycle, and to learn what
goes on within natural eco-
systems, and why. While
they’re into these subjects,
they have lots of summertime
fun on their bikes with their
friends. This is the second
summer season the program’s
been going, but it can grow
with more volunteers.
The group meets every
Wednesday throughout the
summer, starting at the end
of June to the last week of
August. They meet at 9 a.m.,
and depart for the trails at
9:45 a.m. to explore and do
their ecology studies in the
Camp Sherman basin. Pick
-up time is approximately
3 p.m. The participants use
their own mountain bike, hel-
met, and backpack, and they
bring their own lunch and
plenty of water.
