Wednesday, June 20 2018 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon Obituary Business roundup... Phyllis Edith Johnson MPy 14, 1926 — June 10, 2018 It is with great sadness that the family of Phyllis (Osie) Edith Johnson announce her peaceful pass- ing early Sunday morning, June 10, 2018, in Bend, at the age of 92. She has left a huge void in our hearts. Oh, how we loved our most gen- tle and kind Gram. Gram was born in her McGregor family home on May 14, 1926, in Molalla, Oregon, where she grew up with her three sisters, Nellie May, June and Fern. She endured working in the Portland shipyards after grad- uating from Molalla High School, then attended both Oregon College of Education and the University of Oregon for one year, all the time waiting for her future hus- band to return home from World War II. Gram married the love of her life, Marine Corps Sgt. Victor L. Johnson, in Portland on March 28, 1946. They were together for 63 years. While Gram was a full- time wife and mom to her twin sons (Mike and Steve) and daughter (Connie), she also held several jobs while helping raise the Johnson family in both Corvallis and Lebanon, Oregon. Working for the Athletic Department at Oregon State College (now OSU) in the late 1950s was a job she truly enjoyed. With the kids grown and on their own, Gram and Vic made their way to their dream destination, Camp Sherman, Oregon, where they lived in their home next to Lake Creek in Metolius Meadows for 35 years. Gram stayed busy even then, open- ing the original Ranch House Deli in Sisters with co-owner and daughter, Connie, and then later working in retail sales at Common Threads, where she finally “retired” at 11 the age of 80. Skiing, golf, reading, and cooking were favorite activi- ties for Gram, with knitting, Mah Jong and quilting taking precedent in her later years. Being named the Featured Quilter at the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show in 2009, just a few weeks before Grandpa Vic passed away, was a tre- mendous honor for her and her family. Gram is survived by Mike and Kathy Johnson (Eagle Crest), Steve and Marti Johnson (Bend) and Connie and Doug Holly (Sisters); her beloved grandchildren Derek Johnson (Bend), Jill Crafton (Redmond), Treasure Lewis (Sisters), Sondy Rexford (Ridgefield, Connecticut), Brook Brand (Carlsbad, California) and Brit Johnson (Sisters); as well as a grand total of 11 great-grandchildren. Gram was a special lady who always had a way of making others feel special and loved. To have been the recipient of her love for so many years was a blessing to us all. May the brightest of stars shine upon her soul. A Celebration of Life will be held for Gram at the Camp Sherman Community Hall, Saturday, June 30, at 2 p.m. Contributions to her memory may be made to: National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Oregon Chapter, 5331 SW Macadam Ste. 290, Portland, OR 97239. The annual event, for which Aspen Lakes donates the use of the course, raised $15,000 for the Outlaw Football Program and other K-12 co-curricular activities throughout the Sisters School District. In a continuing effort to keep Sisters’ kids safe and healthy on the field, the football program promoted “Holes for Helmets” this year and plans to use the proceeds to replace helmets that are in need of upgrading. The tournament is a high- light for Aspen Lakes, which made the national Golfweek Magazine list of the “Best Courses You Can Play” for each state. Aspen Lakes was listed at No. 8. The International Association of Golf Tour Operators is set for June 24-27 in Central Oregon at Sunriver Resort. More than 160 golf tour operators from some 35 countries, all selling North America, will attend the convention. Aspen Lakes, FivePine, and the Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce will host a pre- familiarization reception at Aspen Lakes on June 21, prior to the conference, and then will conclude the visit by hosting a post-conference farewell reception on June 29. This will allow Sisters Country to present some of the things that make the area an ideal destination for inter- national visitors. • Gypsy Wind Clothing is now open at 351 W.
