The tanks can be used for both fermentation and conditioning. This adds over 3,000 barrels of produc- tion annually. The tanks are manufactured in Oregon by Pioneer Tank and Vessel in Portland. Three Creeks Brewing By T. Lee Brown Correspondent About 65-70 people gath- ered last Saturday to chat in person with local organiza- tions and get involved in their community. Sixteen organi- zations set up tables for the Volunteer Fair, held at Sisters Park & Recreation District. Shawn Steele stepped into SPRD’s small gymnasium room to look at the options. “It’s kind of intimidating, all the tables, and feeling like everyone needs you to stop by,” she said. “But I had seen YouthBuild out in the com- munity and was very curious about what they did. I had a lovely conversation with the guy at YouthBuild.” She ended up signing on to volunteer with the orga- nization, which helps rural youth ages 16-24 learn real- life skills, earn stipends, and finish their GED certificates or high school diplomas — all while building houses that help their communities. “They need mentors,” Steele explained. “They need positive, reliable adults to show up and be in their lives. I think I’ll start out helping them in the classroom. He said you can also help them on the build; you don’t have to have any experience. The kids have the experience.” Most organizations at the fair reported signing up at least five solid volunteers during the fair and added many others to their mailing Co. is expanding capac- ity as they enter their 10th year. Outside the SPRD build- ing, patrons munched on hamburgers grilled up by Kiwanians and browsed information about an arts and literature organization new to Sisters. Steele said she believes volunteer opportunities are great for people who tend to “spend too much time absorbed in the negativity of the news, television news. Watching national news all day doesn’t bring you back into your local community, where a lot of positive things are happening. There’s a lot of good going on in the towns where we live, and you don’t know until you get out there and volunteer.” Steele and her mother, Nicki Pistacchio, both volun- teer at the Sisters Elementary F LL TODAY E IN OR CA OR YOUR E C N A R U S FREE I N ISON! She said that eight organiza- tions participated in planning the event beginning in early April. The fair was presented by Habitat for Humanity and SPRD, with help from many members of the nonprofit community. “All the organizations were excited to do it again next year,” said Binks after the event. “A couple people talked about maybe doing it twice a year. In fact, someone from Kiwanis was suggesting we do a pancake breakfast.” PHOTO BY JIM CORNELIUS Three Creeks Brewing Co. moved two massive new tanks into its Sisters production facility last week.
