Memorial Day Ceremony
The Sisters School District
presents two free concerts
next week, both at Sisters
High School: a choir concert
takes place on Wednesday,
May 23 at 7 p.m., and a band
concert takes place Thursday,
May 24, also at 7 p.m. During
Thursday’s concert, the
winning ticket will be drawn
for a recent quilt raffl e. For

The annual Memorial Day
Ceremony at Village Green
Park will take place Monday,
May 28 at 11 a.m. The
community is invited to honor
the memory of those who have
given their lives defending our
nation. Keynote speaker this
year will be U.S. Army veteran
Brett Miller. A lunch will follow
the ceremony (no charge, but
donations gratefully accepted).

Land Trust Walks & Hikes
You can become an offi cial
bird surveyor for the Deschutes
Land Trust, recording species
and numbers at the preserves.
Bird identifi cation skills not
required; learn as you go! A
commitment of at least one
survey a month, May through
Sept. is requested. Training
takes place May 25 and June 3.

Sisters Seeks Planning
Commission Members
The City is taking applications
for two in-city or out-of-city
volunteers to serve on the
Planning Commission for
4-year terms. The Commission
reviews major land-use
applications and advises the
Council on planning policies.
It regularly meets at 4 p.m. the
third Thursday of the month.

City Election Materials
Three City Council positions
will be open on the Nov. 6
General Election ballot; the
terms of Asson, Connolly, and
Esterman expire 12/31/18 (and
they’re eligible to re-apply).
To be eligible you must be
registered to vote in Oregon
and a resident of the city of
Sisters for 12 months preceding
the election. Pick up election
materials at City Hall starting
May 30. Perfected petitions
must be received by 5 p.m. on
August 28 to be on the ballot.

Dementia Caregivers Group
A free support group for
caregivers of those suffering
with Alzheimer’s or other forms
of dementia takes place the
fi rst Tuesday of each month
from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at
Sisters City Hall. Sponsored by
the Alzheimer’s Association,
meetings provide emotional,
educational, and social

Mr. SHS Pageant
Sisters High School will hold
the annual Mr. SHS Pageant in
the school auditorium Saturday,
