Sickness, injury take toll on Outlaws Noted Western artist
returns to Sisters

The boys lacrosse squad
has been plagued with sick-
ness and injury, which took
a toll on the Outlaws this
past week. Sisters lost 10-6
on the road at Ridgeview on
Tuesday, and two days later
were clobbered 21-3 at home
against Bend.
Sisters was down eight
players due to sickness and
a variety of other reasons
in Tuesday’s game against
Ridgeview, and several play-
ers had just returned to the
squad after being out due to
illness and injury.
Despite the low num-
bers, the Outlaws started off
well and were ahead 4-2 at
the half, but things changed
quickly in the second half
of the game. Ridgeview
got a couple of quick goals
and seized the momentum.
Sisters’ players became
fatigued, and the shift in
momentum rattled them.
Sisters regained compo-
sure and battled hard to the
very end, but it just wasn’t
enough to get the win.
Trey Stadeli and Noah
Keeton each scored two
goals, and Ethan Morgan
and Gator Haken added one
goal. Jake Stevens, Kinnon
Rutherford, Stadeli, and
Morgan contributed one
assist each. Goalie Casey
Warburton had 13 saves on
35 shots.
Haken dislocated his
shoulder during the contest,
and will not be able to play
the remainder of the season.
“The boys took the loss
pretty hard, because we
knew we had a chance for
a big win, and we let it slip
away,” said Coach Paul
Patton. “But I’m proud of the
boys for the way they com-
peted hard, despite the adver-
sity the team was dealing
with.”
At home, two days later
in a pre-game ceremony,
the Outlaws honored their
11 senior players: Jaden

and accomplished artist, Len
Babb returns to Sisters for a
show at Black Butte Ranch on
Saturday and Sunday, May 19
and 20, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The show in the Black
Butte Community Room
will feature Babb’s original
oil paintings, watercolors,
pen-and-ink drawings, and
sculptures.
Len’s art has been favor-
ably compared to Western art-
ist Charles Russell, and it is
a comparison Len embraces.
Babb told The Nugget:
“Russell once said that big
hats and high-heeled boots
don’t make cowboys, but bib
overalls and muley cattle don’t
make pictures. And Russell’s
wife was pretty protective of
him. She said that ‘If it isn’t
like Russell, it’s wrong.’”
The comparison to
Russell’s work is probably
inevitable, but Len Babb’s art
is entirely his own.
Working out of his hand-
built log-cabin studio on a
sagebrush hill overlooking
Paisley, Babb brings vivid
buckaroo images to life in
celebrated works such as
“Running Iron.”
His studio is packed with
memorabilia from a lifetime
spent in the saddle, as a work-
ing cowboy, buckaroo — and
together with one of his sons
— as an accomplished and
much sought-after saddle-
maker. From early childhood,
Len has worked on cow out-
fits large and small, famous
and infamous, from Wyoming
to Oregon.

Coach Paul Patton said,
“Most of these boys have
been the core of the team for
the last three years and will
be hard to replace.”
The contest against Bend
was extremely difficult. The
Outlaws were still deal-
ing with a wave of illness,
and just weren’t able to put
their best foot forward. But,
despite their depleted num-
bers and weakened condition
they played hard.
Patton noted that
Warburton was particularly
impressive with his effort in
the goal, and made a bunch
of tough saves under a steady
stream of shots from Bend’s
high-powered offense.
Casey had 18 saves and
Anthony Randolf had three
saves in relief, on 58 shots
total between the two goalies.
Morgan, Richerson, and
Stadeli each scored one goal
in the contest.
The Outlaws were to wrap
up their season with a game
at La Salle Prep in Milwaukie
on Tuesday, May 15.
