The majority of people in attendance were 60-79 years old (70 percent) and retired (42 percent) who stated that they came to get information and to get involved. About 80 percent thought the conversation had great value: Getting people informed and energized; identifying issues; hear- ing about what resources are available and what has already been done; shar- ing ideas and connections; hearing other peoples’ opin- ions; finding out how to get involved. Jed will play at the state tournament, which will be held at Oregon State University on Friday and Saturday, May 18 and 19. Day two of districts were held on Monday, May 7, and two days later the semi-finals and championship matches were played; both at Black Butte Ranch. In round two on Monday, J e d d e f e a t e d Tr i s t y n Weinberger of Cascade 6-3, 6-2, and went on to earn a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Leo Thiele in the quarterfinals. Kizziar said, “The win in the quarterfinals felt really good, and after the match it sank in that I’d made it to state, which has been my goal from the beginning. It was such a relief. I played a very defensive game, because I knew my opponent would make mistakes. I played really deep balls, as well as coming up to the net, and forced him to either pass me or get it over me.” On Thursday, Kizziar continued his stellar play. Jed defeated Ben Suelzle of Cascade 7-5, 6-3, in the semi- finals, and then bested Colton Beckwith of Philomath 6-3, 7-6, (7-3) in the champion- ship match. The only other choice is to hit a perfect lob or passing shot, and more times than not they can’t handle the pressure Jed creates.” With the wins Kizziar remained undefeated against league opponents with a 13-0 record, and will head to the state tournament for the second time. Nate Weber defeated Jeremy Alston of Philomath 6-3, 6-3 in the second round, but fell 4-6, 0-6 to Ben Suelzie of Cascade in the quarterfinals. Weber said, “I went out thinking that I was playing a top-four seed, so I was just going to try and make it as close as I could. I lost the second set, but was happy about the way I played.” That play was noticed. “Nate turned some heads at the tournament,” Click said. “Many coaches and spectators were surprised that he is just a freshman.
