Wednesday, May 9, 2018 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon 19 Artists in paper featured in exhibit PHOTO PROVIDED One of Portland’s most “buzzed about” bands is coming to The Belfry. Dirty Revival headed to Sisters Dirty Revival, a seven- piece soul/rock band hailing from Portland, is quickly gaining notoriety for their inspired songwriting and impressive live perfor- mances and has been elec- trifying stages across the U.S. since 2013. They’re headed to Sisters to elec- trify The Belfry on Friday, May 18. Fronted by Portland native Sarah Clarke, who’s powerful vocals and engag- ing stage presence immedi- ately command attention, the rest of the band is comprised of six exceptional musicians, Evan “Evvnflo” Simko (gui- tar + MC), Terry Drysdale (drums), Jon Shaw (bass), Ben Turner (keys), Chris Hardin (tenor sax), Thomas Barber (trumpet). Many of them friends since high school, each player is as good as the next and all of them exceptional in their own way, Dirty Revival functions like a well-oiled machine, with every part doing exactly what it’s supposed to. Dirty Revival’s demo- cratic approach to music shows in their songwriting, their original music effort- lessly incorporating several different genres of music. At times showcasing their unique take on the soul and funk sounds of the 1960s and ’70s, then straddling the line between rock band and pop band. The care the group takes in the arrange- ment of their original music is reflected in their cover choices, known for their dynamic recreations of clas- sic songs by artists ranging from NIN to Black Sabbath and Rage Against the Machine. All of this illustrates why it is difficult to put Dirty Revival in any one genre of music. The Belfry is located at 302 E. Main Ave. in Sisters. Girls tennis advances players By Rongi Yost Correspondent Three of the Sisters girls tennis teams advanced to the quarterfinals after the first round of the 4A/3A/2A/1A Special District 2 Championships held on Thursday, May 3. Rheanna Salisbury got an easy victory over Estacada’s Hope Steffansen 6-1, 6-2. Rheanna had defeated Steffansen three days ear- lier, and knew she could do it again if she played her game. Coach Crystal Tosello said, “Hope liked to come up to the net a lot, but since Rheanna had played doubles last year, that didn’t intimidate her, and she soared great lobs over her head.” Salisbury said, “Crystal (coach) really helped me and gave me the motivation to keep going, and my lobs are what really got me the win.” Hawley Harrer and Rylee Weber earned a 6-2, 6-1 vic- tory over Cascades’ Drill and Borchers. “Hawley and Rylee often take a few games to get in their groove, so they gave a couple games away to Cascades’ team early on,” stated Tosello. “Once they got their rhythm, they played very well. They played a great net game, and had great team- work and movement. They chase everything down, even when the other team thinks they’ve hit a winning shot.” See GIRLS TENNIS on page 21 GET OUR BEST PRICE EVERY DAY You shouldn’t sho ou ldn t have t to pay a premium to get the highest quality windows, w window coverings, doors, and architectural millwork.
