10 Wednesday, May 2, 2018 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon BottleDrop Express opens in Sisters PHOTO BY JERRY BALDOCK Volunteers put the finishing touches on Bike Park 242 jumplines last weekend. Wheels up on Bike Park 242 Riders in Sisters can get their wheels down in the dirt — and up in the air — at Bike park 242 this week. Three years in the mak- ing, the bike park located next to the Sisters Park & Recreation District’s Coffield Center at the west end of the Sisters High School parking lot offers thrills for riders of a variety of skill levels. Volunteer Bike Park 242 committee members Joel Palanuk, Bob Hoffman, Brittany Simonis and Casey Meudt were out last weekend with other workers putting the finishing touches on the park’s initial features. “We’re in the process of finishing and packing the jumplines,” Meudt explained. There are three jumplines ranging in challenge from beginner level to “Black Diamond.” Eventually, the park will also feature rock and wood mountain bike skill features for those who want to prac- tice their trail-riding skills without catching massive air. The project was funded through a $25,000 matching grant from Oregon Parks and Recreation, matched through fundraising. That work will continue, Meudt said. Volunteers will “adopt” sections of the park for ongo- ing maintenance. There are plans for pro clinics and activities through SPRD, but the primary use is as a free, public park. The committee is planning a grand-opening celebration in June, but the park is ready to roll this week. “It’s rideable,” said Palanuk. “Have fun. Be safe. WEAR A HELMET!” Oregon Beverage Recycling Cooperative (OBRC) has expanded access to its green bag account program by opening a new BottleDrop Express location in Sisters. A new BottleDrop Express is now open at Ray’s Food Place. This is the first BottleDrop Express site in Sisters. BottleDrop Express locations are open from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. every day, making them the most convenient way to redeem deposit con- tainers. BottleDrop Express offers a secure drop door, so consumers can drop off bags of redeemable containers. To use BottleDrop Express, customers sign up for an account at the kiosk and pick up their BottleDrop green bags inside the store. Then they can drop their full green bags through the drop door. Bags will be picked up and counted by our staff and then deposits, minus a small processing fee, are credited to customers’ accounts within five business days. An average bag holds Schedule online! A day earlier they defeated Marist 10-1 at home in Sisters, but earlier in the week, on Tuesday, fell hard at home to Mt. View in a 13-4 loss. Tuesday’s loss to Mt. View was a tough one. Grade prob- lems let the team down, and injury and illness were also a factor as only 14 of the 26 players were able to play. See LACROSSE on page 30 about $7 worth of deposits. There are now 23 BottleDrop Redemption Centers and 12 Express loca- tions around the state. OBRC is the industry steward of Oregon’s bottle deposit and redemption sys- tem. Their 400 employees collect containers from more than 2,500 locations and recycle more than 138 mil- lion pounds of glass, plastic, and aluminum each year. They return deposits only for those containers that have been purchased with a deposit in Oregon. — Paid for by Vote Hummel — | 304 W. Adams Ave. | Sisters
