Sisters to celebrate
ancient arts

Two Sisters riders
headed to state
Two Sisters High School
athletes have qualified for the
state OHSET (Oregon High
School Equestrian Team)
meet. Rebecca Rubbert, a
Sisters High School senior,
qualified for state in two
equestrian performance
events: Western Trail and In
Hand Trail. Rubbert has com-
peted in OHSET since she
was a freshman.
These events are highly
technical and require preci-
sion. The athletes earned their
state berth in district compe-
tition on April 15. Hailee
Kennedy, SHS freshman,
qualified for state in Pole
Bending. Pole Bending is
a timed event that features
a horse and one mounted
rider, running a weaving
or serpentine path around
six poles arranged in a line.
The object is to run the pat-
tern correctly as quickly as
possible, without knocking
down any of the poles.
“Rebecca and Hailee’s
hard work and preparation
has [sic] paid off. They are
both deserving of state quali-
fication,” said Coach Kerry
Newell.
The Sisters OHSET team
is part of the Central District
and competed against 15
teams at three meets this year.
The state meet will be
held at the Deschutes County
Fairgrounds May 10-13.
Sisters will mark World
Tai Chi and Qigong Day on
Saturday, April 28, with a
gathering of practitioners at
Creekside Park.
This annual event begins
at 10 a.m. Sisters time. It
begins in the Far East in
Samoa and then continues
for 24 hours throughout
Asia, Africa, Europe, North
and South America. There
are celebrations in more
than 80 nations around the
world.
The purpose of the free
event is to educate people
about tai chi (tai ji) and
qigong and the health ben-
efits they provide.
The use of these ancient
Chinese modalities is con-
sidered to promote increased
focus and concentration,
healing balance (physi-
cal and energetic), and
spiritual and community
connection.
Qi, or chi (“chee”), is
vital life force or energy and
is shared with all life.

Dog attack
victim: Right
canines in
custody
BEND (AP) — A woman
mauled by two dogs in
rural Deschutes County
says the correct canines are
imprisoned.
Joy Stanovich-Brown and
a neighbor inspected a lineup
Wednesday at the Humane
Society of Central Oregon.
The visit was necessary
because the owner of the sus-
pect dogs insists one of them
was misidentified.
The Bulletin reports that
Stanovich-Brown and the
neighbor who rescued her are
certain that a female boxer
named Brandy is one of the
attackers. The dogs fractured
Stanovich-Brown’s right
ankle, damaged the nerves in
her right hand and left lacera-
tions up and down her legs.
A county board will decide
next week whether Brandy
and a male boxer named
Marshall should be killed.
