10 Wednesday, April 18, 2018 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon Outlaws fall to Ravens in overtime By Rongi Yost Correspondent The Outlaws suffered a heartbreaking 8-9 loss at home to the Ridgeview Ravens on Tuesday, April 10. Four days later they were dismantled by visiting Sprague in a final score of 12-2. Ridgeview took advantage of the Outlaws turnovers and penalties in Tuesday’s match- up to jump out to an early start. Sisters was down by two or three goals for most of the contest, but scored two goals in the last two minutes of reg- ulation play, the last by Gator Haken in the final minute. The final goal came when Jared Richarson drove the middle, ran around the crease to open up the outside for Haken. Gator cut toward the goal on the left and received a pass from Trey Stadeli. He took a shot from eight feet out that went over the goalie’s head and into the top-right corner of the net for the score, which sent the game into overtime. Two minutes into over- time, Ridgeview got the face- off groundball, and worked their offense for the winning goal. Haken said, “We lacked communication in overtime, and we weren’t able to pos- sess the ball, which resulted in them scoring a goal.” Coach Paul Patton said, “This game we were closer to full strength than we’ve been all season, with 23 players dressed down, but the three guys missing were all middies, so the middies who played PHOTO BY JERRY BALDOCK Trey Stadeli scores in a tough battle against Ridgeview. had to gut it out through some fatigue. Even though we lost the game, if you compare the score to how we did against Ridgeview the last two sea- sons, it was a significant improvement. We play them again later in the year and are expecting with improved play to come out on top.” Patton stated that Haken, who was back on the field after missing the first five games due to illness, was another scoring threat on attack for the Outlaws. Ethan Morgan led the team with three goals. Stadeli and Richerson each scored two goals, and Haken contributed one. Casey Warburton had 11 saves in the goal. On Saturday, Sprague definitively out-played the Outlaws, with 10 of the Olympians’ goals coming off assists. Sisters had 16 Offering Aveda ™ Skin & Body Care! hair | massage | nails facials | makeup 541-549-1784 161-C N. Elm St. turnovers in the contest, and Sprague only had five. Noah Keeton and Kinnon Rutherford each scored a goal for the Outlaws. Warburton recorded 12 saves in the goal. Matt Owen led the team with 10 ground balls, followed by Jake Stevens who tallied nine. Haken had seven ground balls and Stadeli contributed six. Patton said, “We were without two of our team captains due to illness, and that hurt us when it came to handling the pressure of the game. This was our first lop- sided loss of the year, and we’ve got to just take a step back, look at how we’re doing things, learn from it, and work to get better.” Sisters was to play at home against Mt. Stargazing season is on the rise in Sisters The Sisters Astronomy Club kicks off its 2018 pub- lic observing season with a telescope workshop Saturday evening, April 21, at Sisters Park & Recreation District (SPRD.) Have you, a family mem- ber or a friend ever received a telescope as a Christmas or birthday gift that the recipi- ent could not get to operate properly? Or maybe your scope has been sitting in the garage or storage area for years and you’ve simply for- gotten how to operate it. If so, bring it to the workshop where experienced amateur astronomers will be on hand to help troubleshoot your instrument. This will include instruction on how to align finder scopes and equatorial mounts, among other things. Handouts that illustrate the fundamental designs of refracting and reflecting tele- scopes, define useful termi- nology and introduce simple equations for calculating things like magnification, or power, will also be made available. Later in the evening a first- quarter moon in the SSW will make an ideal target for your newly adjusted telescope. SPRD is located on the west side of Sisters High School’s south parking lot.
