Wednesday, March 14, 2018 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon Sisters Olive & Nut CoM hits milestone Obituary Nikki Lynn Heiden By Jim Cornelius December 13, 1946 — March 6, 2018 Editor in Chief Nikki Lynn Heiden passed away in her Sisters home on March 6 after a lengthy illness. She and her long-time friend Pam Klampe founded a fashion jewelry store, Ear Expressions, in Corvallis in the early 1980s. Nikki even- tually purchased the store from Pam and in 1991 relo- cated the business to down- town Sisters. I n 1 9 9 4 s h e m a r- ried Sisters resident Jim Yuskavitch whom she met when he was also living in Corvallis. Although they were only married for 24 years, they knew each other and were together for nearly 40 years. Nikki retired several years ago after 35 years in business when her daugh- ter Jennifer took over the store. Nikki also served on the Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors a number of years ago, and for several years organized the Sisters Art Mitch and Julie Mansfield’s story is a familiar one. Just over a decade ago, they visited Sisters at Thanksgiving time and they fell in love. They decided that Sisters was the place where they wanted to raise their daughters, and they made the move. They purchased Sisters Olive & Nut Co. from friends of a friend and went into busi- ness. His friends and family thought he’d gone… well… nuts. “I owned a machine shop and never worked a day of retail in my life,” Mitch recalled. “They all thought we’d lost our minds. ‘You’re going to sell what, where?’ “And here we are.” And here they’ve been — for 10 years this month. “It went fast,” Julie said. Any local retailer can tell you that if you can make it for 10 years in Sisters, you’re doing something right.
