Wednesday, March 14, 2018 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon Business roundupMMM Sisters salutesMMM Patrick Eckford wrote: A few days ago, I was driving my old pickup down Road 16 (Three Creek Road), after doing some volunteer trail maintenance and moni- toring work on the Three Creek Nordic Ski Trail sys- tem. About 5-1/2 miles from town I met a truck with a double snowmobile trailer heading up in the opposite direction. As we approached each other, I could see there wasn’t going to be much clearance between our rigs, so I slowed way down and tried to hug the right-side snow berm as tightly as pos- sible. But the snow had got- ten heavy by that time of day and in a flash, the truck veered right, through the snowbank, and then down into the ditch. I was already in 4-wheel drive and tried to drive out the other end, but to no avail. The truck was good and stuck. As I hoisted open the door to haul myself out, I could see that the other pickup had stopped and was now backing up. Within a couple minutes the driver came back to see if I was okay and if he could help. I’m pretty sure his name was Ernie. He was concerned that he might have crowded me off the road but mostly, I think, he was just a real nice ST. He even unhitched his trailer and brought his truck back to try to pull me out. We took turns shoveling out some snow but unfortunately the truck was buried too deep and the side of the ditch was too steep. After trying together for about 20 minutes, we deter- mined it was going to take a tow truck. He kindly offered to call Davis Towing for me and then started hitching up his trailer to head off. I mentioned something about being glad things hadn’t been worse, appreciating his help, and wondered out loud what the tow was going to cost. He said, “don’t worry about it, I took care of the bill when I called the tow truck.” I pro- tested, but he shrugged off my concerns, said goodbye and drove on up the road. In about 20 minutes the nice Davis guy showed up and made quick work of pulling me out — no appar- ent damage. I walked over to his truck and asked what I owed. His response — “not a dime!” Sure enough, the pickup driver had given his credit card info when he called in the tow! As the tow truck driver said, “It sort of renews your faith…” “Business roundup” pro- vides notice of new business openings, relocations, and new ownership.
