Wednesday, February 14, 2018 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon Sisters salutes... Carys Wilkins and Benji Nagel wrote “to share our gratitude and apprecia- tion for everyone who has been present for the Sisters Farmers Market. This is a big thank-you to anyone who has come to support our local farmers and creators of handcrafted products; to those who have come to listen to music and be a part of the community event; to those who have enliv- ened the market with musi- cal talents; and to all those who have helped in some way keep the market going. “Special thanks to Janet Zuelke, Jan McGowan, Gayle Hoagland, Mary Lowe, Rebecca Sokol, Lisa Allenbach, Angelena Bosco, Sommer Moyer and all of the vendors throughout the years. “Benji and I had a baby this winter and, as we will continue to farm full-time, will not be managing again for 2018. We are in search of new management. If you are interested, or know anyone who would be, please send in a résumé and cover letter to SistersFarmersMarket@ gmail.com by February 25. “We have had a truly incredible few years get- ting to know and working with the Central Oregon small-business owners, and we are so grateful for the opportunities that the mar- ket has given us as a small business. We will do all we can to support and keep the market running in full force and hopefully to make it far better than it has ever been. The opportunity is here and inspiring in this time when more people than ever are focusing on ‘local’. “Thank you all for help- ing us craft our own very fruitful lives in this quaint and fiercely supportive town.” Restaurant to host LED candlelight dinner The Energy Challenge is partnering with local restau- rant Sisters Saloon to host a candlelight dining night next week. The goal is to inform people about effi- cient LED lighting and other energy-saving practices at a time when demand for light- ing and other energy use spikes. “Everyone uses more interior and exterior lighting during winter months, so this is the perfect time to bring more awareness to energy- efficient options such as LED light bulbs,” said Neil Baunsgard, program manager for The Energy Challenge’s free LED program. LED stands for light emitting diode, and they are 80 per- cent more efficient than stan- dard light bulbs. “The best part is that with our 16 Free LED program, we’re able to connect many people with energy savings at no cost to them.” The event is set at Sisters Saloon & Ranch Grill on Friday, February 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. The restaurant will oper- ate just as they would on any other night, but the lights will be dimmed a little lower and there will be LED candles on the tables.
