The swimmers of Sisters High School competed in back-to-back meets Friday and Saturday and continue to show progress at mid-season. Friday the team traveled to Philomath to go head-to- head with the Warriors in a dual meet. According to Coach Bryn Singleton, high- lights from the meet were not necessarily limited just to top placers, but on surpris- ing results from first-year swimmers. First-year swimmer Sam Mayes broke the 1:00 bar- rier in the 100-yard free- style, clocking a five-sec- ond improvement at 59.72. Additionally, Laura Clem and Iris Diez took huge chunks of time off their 200- and 500-freestyle times. “It was good to have a smaller meet and focus on technique and competing against the clock as well as the other swimmers,” Singleton said. Swimmers included Brooke Robillard, Hawley Harrer, Lydia Bartlett and Meredith Mandal. Mandal came up with one of two individual wins for the Outlaws, capturing the 500- yard freestyle in 5:48.53, a full 12 seconds ahead of the runner-up, while Bartlett, returning from a bicep injury, won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:09.11, more than three sec- onds ahead of second place. Anna Bartlett joined Harrer, Mandal and Robillard to pick up second place in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:09.43. Robillard earned an individual second- place finish in the 50-yard backstroke, clocking 34.34 seconds. For the boys, Gator Haken was part of two top-eight fin- ishes. He placed eighth in the 50-yard freestyle (28.78) and he and his teammates Peyton Myhre, Sam Mayes, and Jackson Rheuben took sixth place in the 200-yard free- style relay (1:56.89). “As a coach it is pleasing to see continuous improve- ment by all the swimmers, regardless of their experi- ence,” said Singleton. “We got to see some high-quality competition this weekend, which really helps us to see where we want to be for the big meets at District and State.” There is no rest for the swimmers this week as they once again have two separate competitions. Friday the team travels to Sweet Home for a four-way meet and Saturday the team will compete at the Breast Cancer Awareness meet at South Albany High School.
