14 Wednesday, January 17, 2018 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon Alpine Outlaws compete at Oregon Wrestling Classic skiers compete in slalom race at Mt. Bachelor By Rongi Yost Correspondent By Rongi Yost Correspondent The Outlaws Alpine Ski Team enjoyed beautiful, sunny weather in their slalom race on Saturday, January 13, held at Mt. Bachelor. The boys team finished fifth over- all, and Sisters’ lone female racer, Skylar Wilkins, had a great performance and fin- ished 37th overall. Boys’ placings are as fol- lows: George Chladek, 11th place; Evan Palmer, 16th place; John Banks, 41st; Christopher Lundgren, 49th place; Conner Petke, 52nd place; and Corbin Johnson 58th place. Temperatures that hov- ered near freezing allowed the snow to hold up well for the race. The snow condi- tions were a bit softer than racers experienced the previ- ous week, which allowed the newer racers to be a bit more comfortable as they raced, but did make for some ruts later in the day. Coach Gabe Chladek told The Nugget that the boys’ fifth-place finish was impres- sive, given the relative inex- perience on the team this year. “Each racer continues to show improvement, and next week we will be fielding three racers that have been unable to compete yet this year,” said Chladek. “I think the Sisters team will be look- ing to move into the fourth- place spot over the next cou- ple of races.” I think the Sisters team will be looking to move into the fourth-place spot over the next couple of races. — Coach Gabe Chladek Sisters competed in six dual matches at the Oregon Wrestling Classic held at the Expo Center in Redmond on Friday and Saturday, January 13 and 14.
