Coach Bryn Single- ton is well pleased with the improvement and the building camaraderie she has witnessed in the past three weeks. The Outlaws began com- petition in the new year at the 14th Annual RHS Jay Rowan Invitational on Saturday, Janu- ary 6, a four-way meet includ- ing Madras, Redmond, Rid- geview and Sisters. Redmond High School hosted the meet. Sisters nearly pulled off the overall win on the girls side, losing by just one point to Redmond 274-273. Rid- geview placed third (124) and Madras fourth (56). Highlights for the girls included Hawley Harrer’s narrow win in the 100-meter freestyle (1:08.96), Brooke Robillard’s whopping nine- second win in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:24.74), and victories in the 400- and 200- meter freestyle relays. Robillard, Ella Cole, Ser- ena Salisbury, and Hawley Harrer teamed up in the 200- meter freestyle relay, winning in 2:12.96, a full six seconds ahead of runner-up Rid- geview. Robillard and Harrer also joined Iris Diez and Anna Bartlett for the 400-meter freestyle relay, which won by nearly a minute in 5:26.31. The Redmond Panthers dominated the boys meet, Great hair doesn’t happen by chance. It happens by appointment. more than doubling the score of runner-up Ridgeview 376- 165.5. Sisters finished third with 133.5, just ahead of the Madras White Buffaloes with 131.5. The highest finish for the Outlaw boys came in the 400- meter freestyle relay where the team of Gator Haken, Connor Crowe, Sam Mayes, and Jack- son Rheuben placed second in 5:13.18. Earlier in the meet Rheuben placed second in the 200-meter individual medley with a time of 3:09.73. The Outlaw swimmers took on their biggest challenge of the season on Saturday, January 13 at the eight-team Madras White Buffalo Classic at the Madras Swim Center. The girls team placed fourth with 31 points behind powerhouse North Bend (152.2), Hood River (57.3), and Pendleton (32). The remaining scores included Philomath (18.6), Madras (7.7), Ridgeview (6.8) and The Dalles (5). Brooke Robillard picked up one of a pair of runner-up finishes for the Outlaws with her effort in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:16.10). Mer- edith Mandal placed second in the 100-meter freestyle (1:01.43). In addition, Robillard placed third in the 50 free (27.32) and joined Ella Cole, Anna Bartlett, and Mandal for a third-place finish in the 200-meter freestyle relay (1:57.99). Bartlett picked up a fourth place in the 200 freestyle (2:30) and fifth in the 500- meter freestyle (6:40.47). The boys team’s enthusi- asm was not enough to make up for its relative lack of depth and experience, leav- ing the Outlaws in sixth with just 6 points. The Pirates of North Bend crushed the field with 151 points, easily out- distancing Hood River (40), Pendleton (39), Philomath (32), Ridgeview (30), Sister (6), Madras (5) and The Dalles (5). Jackson Rheuben provided most of the scoring for the Outlaws, placing fifth in the 50 freestyle with a strong time of 25.25 and fifth again in the 200-meter individual medley (2:40.79). “It’s so enjoyable watching their hard work in practice pay off as they become more pro- ficient in different strokes and drop time every meet,” Single- ton noted. “Having a larger roster has made it fun to have different combinations of kids swim together on relays. They’re really coming together as a whole team.” For their next competi- tion the Outlaws will travel to Philomath for a dual meet on Friday, January 19 with the Warriors. “It will be good to go head-to-head with just one other team,” said Singleton. “It provides more opportu- nity for each swimmer to contribute than at the larger invitationals.” Made in Sisters, Oregon We skillfully fabricate your ideas (and ours) in steel, aluminum, copper & other metals.
