Year saw significant development

“2017 saw explosive
development in our city in
both residential and commer-
cial projects, which clearly
promotes a healthy finan-
cial picture,” Sisters Mayor
Chuck Ryan told The Nugget
in an end-of-year assessment
last week (see related story,
page 3).
“The landscape of our
city never looked better com-
ing off the Cascade Avenue
improvements from 2016 and
our new roundabout project
completion in 2017,” reported
Ryan.
Ninety-two building per-
mits were issued for sin-
gle-family dwelling units
throughout the city, plus 20
for single-family attached
units in the Peaks at Pine
Meadow and the Village at
Cold Springs, and 14 for
mixed-use.
Land-use applications
during 2017 totaled 49 with
eight site plans, two modifi-
cations, six final plats, three
minor partitions, and 30 other
assorted applications. There
were 42 business license
reviews.
An up-to-date zoning map
was completed and a lengthy
buildable-lands inventory
and map was completed, pro-
viding in-depth information
regarding current land avail-
ability and future needs for
land to meet the demand for
future residential growth, as
the 2016 population estimate
of 2,390 is projected to grow
to 4,375 by 2036, an increase
of 1,985 persons.
By the spring of 2018,
construction should be under-
way on 48 affordable work-
force housing apartment units
planned for Village Meadows
Phase Two by HousingWorks.
The site plan is approved and
the building permit is cur-
rently under review.
“The City is contributing
$300,000 to that project as a
part of our affordable-housing
strategy,” Kucera highlighted.

been issued for a 22-unit mul-
tifamily apartment complex
on Adams Avenue, with con-
struction anticipated to begin
in 2018.
Laird SuperFood has
begun construction on one of
two warehouse/light indus-
trial buildings, one 13,600
square feet and the other
at 6,888 square feet. In the
North Sisters Business Park,
there has been building per-
mit signoff on five commer-
cial spaces in two mixed-use
buildings.

BEND (AP) — The
Oregon State Police is ask-
ing for the public’s help to
find the person or people
who poached two mule deer
earlier this year in Central
Oregon.
Investigators said Friday
they believe the first animal
was killed around Oct. 29
south of Pine Mountain in
Deschutes County.
The second deer was
found dead in the Three
Rivers community near Lake
Billy Chinook in Jefferson
County.
Troopers believe the two
incidents are not related.
A reward of up to $500 is
being offered by the Oregon
Hunters Association.
