Boys soccer blanks opponents

The boys soccer team
blanked the Bulldogs 2-0
at Sutherlin on Tuesday,
October 10, and two days
later iced the Huskies 4-0 at
home in Sisters.
Sisters scored both their
goals in the first half in their
game against Sutherlin on
Tuesday. Fifteen minutes into
the contest, Colby Simeral
assisted Skyler Larson on a
slotted ball. Larson beat one
defender on a cut-back and
scored to the right side past
the keeper. Ten minutes later,
Larson assisted Simeral on a
similar play.
Sisters held a 2-0 advan-
tage as teams wrapped up the
first half.
In the second half, the
Bulldogs packed in the
defense, and made it diffi-
cult for the Outlaws to get
shots on goal. Sisters held
onto their lead, and kept the
Bulldogs scoreless.
Illness and injury were
a factor for the Outlaws, as
they were down six starters
by the end of the game.
Coach Rob Jensen noted
Sam Nicklous in particular,
who really stepped in to fill
some roles, and played a very
nice game.
“Sam played really well
with this teammates,” said
Jensen. “He made good runs,
was in the right place at the
right time, and created chem-
istry in the midfield.”
Kinnon Rutherford, who
usually plays at center back,
played much of the game at
holding midfield and also at
attacking midfield.
“I wasn’t getting a lot of
action at center back, and
so Coach Jensen moved me
so I could get more time on
the ball,” said Rutherford. “I
usually don’t get a chance to
score, so I really wanted to
be able to get a goal. I didn’t
get one in, but I did get close
a couple of times.”
Rutherford added, “Today
we really got to work on
our chemistry, getting good
combos and crosses, and the
defense getting a clean slate.
The win was great because
we didn’t get scored on, and
it was a really competitive
game in the midfield.”
On Thursday, the Outlaws
earned a 4-0 victory at home
over the Huskies.
Their first goal came on
a ball that was slotted from
the left side to the right chan-
nel from Simeral to Asher
Bachtold. Bachtold made an
outstanding shot to the upper-
right side of the net, past the
SH keeper for the goal.
Sisters kept possession of
the ball, despite some miser-
able weather. The Outlaws
had several more great shots
in the first half that just fell
short of the goal.
In the second half, the
Outlaws came out strong.
Simeral beat a defender on
a ball, and scored a power-
ful shot from 25 yards to
the right side of the keeper.
Bachtold recorded the assist.
