Cora May Stearns Marcum
May 17, 1929 — August 30, 2017
“Stop, sit and take in the
moment – it’s here only for a
short time,” is a hand-written
note found in Cora’s Bible.
Cora May Marcum went
peacefully to be with the
Lord on August 30, in Sisters.
She joyfully joins her hus-
band, Don, and many other
loved ones in Heaven. Cora
was born to Rose Ella and
Leo Stearns on May 17,1929
in Moretown, Vermont.
She had six siblings, Frank,
Merton, Anne, Leo, Edwin,
and Evelyn.
Cora graduated in 1947
from Spalding High School
in Barre, Vermont, where
she enjoyed theater. After
high school, Cora attended
New England Deaconess
School of Nursing in Boston,
Massachusetts. She was cer-
tified in Neuropsychiatric
Nursing and received her
RN degree in 1951. While
studying for her RN she
was involved with volunteer
work and the Glee Club.
During nursing school,
Cora met the love of her
life, Don Marcum, who was
studying at Gordon Divinity
School. They married on
June 2, 1951, in Boston after
the couple finished their
undergraduate studies. The

Wanda Lee Waters, 62,
of Bend passed away on
October 9, 2107, at home.
Wanda was born in
Campbellsville, Kentucky,
to Stanley and Barbara Biggs
on August 26, 1955. She
went to Marysville High in
Marysville, California; while
in school she married Craig
Waters in November 1971
and then graduated in 1972.
She worked for Lamon
Construction Co. in Yuba
City, California for 20-plus
years. She co-owned Star
Bait & Tackle in Linda,
California, with her hus-
band Craig. They sold that
and retired to Bend in 2005.

were Don continued his mas-
ters studies and Cora began
her nursing career. Later
the couple had a daughter,
Corinne, and a son, David.
Don and Cora returned
to Boston, where they were
commissioned as missionar-
ies by the Park Street Baptist
Church to San Jose, Costa
Rica in 1957. They returned
to the States in 1962. After
living in Florida, New Jersey,
and Philadelphia, they set-
tled in Wheaton, Illinois.
They had another daughter,
Sandra. In 2003 Don and
Cora moved to The Pines in
Sisters.
Cora enjoyed her nurs-
ing at Geneva Hospital and
Central DuPage Hospital in
Illinois. She concluded her
nursing career doing private
care nursing.
Cora had many loves.
First was her love for the
Lord. She sang in many
choirs. She especially
enjoyed the Wheaton Bible
Church Choir where they had
made several recordings.
Cora and Don were avid
organic gardeners. Cora
canned the harvests, provid-
ing vegetables for the year.
She enjoyed making bread
and yogurt. The couple
enjoyed long evening walks
with their dog. Camping,

Heritage USA in Sisters, an
antique and gift store. She
ran that until May of 2015
when she sold that business.
In October of 2015, she
was diagnosed with brain
cancer.
Wanda is survived by
her husband, Craig of Bend;
step-mother, Katha Biggs of
Redmond; mother, Barbara
Nelson of Bend; brother,
Donnie (Dorothy) Biggs of
Yuba City, California; sister,
Kim (Billy) Wise of Rough
and Ready, California;
and numerous nieces and
nephews.
She was preceded in death
by her father, Stanley Biggs.
The family wishes to
extend their gratitude to St.
Richard Arthur Cozby
April 19, 1950 — October 4, 2017
hiking, fishing, bird watch-
ing, and sewing were her
other favorites.
Cora was loved by her
family and is survived by her
children and their spouses,
Corinne and Don Pray,
David and Kathy Marcum,
and Sandi and John Adams;
her Grandchildren Shawn,
Chere, Nikki, Brett, Anna,
Mariel, Amber, Jennifer, and
Samantha; and her great-
grandchildren Darian, Sadee,
Alyssa, Brody, Colton,
Charlee, William and Violet.
Richard was born April
19, 1950 in San Diego,
California to Lowell &
Margot (Goedel) Cozby.
He passed away suddenly
surrounded by his care team
at North Lincoln Hospital in
Lincoln City on October 4,
2017.
Richard graduated from
Sherwood High School in
1968 and in that same year,
was selected to play tight end
for the National East/West
Shriner’s football game. He
continued his education
at South Western Oregon
Community College earn-
ing his associate’s degree in
forestry.
Richard enjoyed fishing,
hunting, golfing, gardening,
music, and was a longtime fan
of the Portland Trail Blazers.
He lived in Sisters for
over 30 years working for the
United States Forest Service.
He later transferred to
Wrangell, Alaska for a brief
period of time before return-
ing to Sisters to finish out his
career. After retirement he
settled in Lincoln City.

Lake Oswego; and Richard’s
sister, Joni Cozby-Hoag and
husband Mark of Bend.
He is preceded in death by
his parents Lowell & Margot
(Goedel) Cozby.
